I have an 09xb12ss with around 8500 miles on it. She just received a new motor because the piston was slapping the case and destroyed the motor. When they installed the new motor they were supposed to flash the ecm program to the 2010 program, but the bike is hotter now than it was before, and the fan doesn't run like it is supposed to, as per the 2010 bikes i ride with. Can anyone shed some light into my situation please! |

Does the fan run like it did previously? How does it run now? Have you asked the dealer about it? -Nick- |

I just had my 2008 XB12Ss re-flashed with the latest ECM flash. The fan is dramatically different in how it runs. Before it would rarely turn on when riding, maybe at a stop light in town on a hot day. But stop the bike and it ran for literally 4-5 minutes after turning it off. Now with the new flash, it runs off and on all the time while riding, and rarely when I turn off the bike. And the few times it has, it lasts maybe 30 seconds. Not sure if that helps any, just my experience with the new vs. old flash. |

the motor is definitely better. however, the bike is definitely hotter than before, and the fan runs less while the bike is running, and more when I turn it off. I have discovered some other issues, and have been to the servicing dealership twice to inform them of what is going on, and will take it back, reluctently, for them to fix what they screwed up/forgot. Thanks for your help |

Could you elaborate further on the engine failure? I just purchased an '09 Ss in March. What is the build date on your '09? |

A new motor might run hotter due to increased friction in the motor. After about 800-1000 miles a motor becomes looser and temps usually come down. At least from what I know. $.02 |

Dio- my bike was built july 2008. I knew something was not right with the motor from the time the bike was only a couple of months old because I was consuming oil at a rate of 1 full quart every 500-750 miles. The bike was not dripping, puking, or smoking, but the oil was not there. My nearest dealership kept telling me that it was within specs, but I know better, I have been in the business of aftermarket hd parts for almost 8 years now, and have never seen this happen before. The problem was discovered when I took the bike in for some gaskets to be changed, as they were sweating oil around them, not a drip, just wet enough to discolor the paint. I do not believe it is a common problem, but I would definitely keep an eye on your oil level, and if something does not seem right to you, then do not be afraid to take the bike to your local dealership and let them know. |
