My fan fuse has blown twice now in 2 days. ('07 XBS, 8k miles) The fan was pretty oily and I have washed it off. Probably the rockerbox gasket, but no drips on the floor. I have the stock shock, could it be leaking? Basically, is it likely that I have to replace the gasket(s)? The fan spins freely when I flip it with a screwdriver. Two likely possibilities: (1) breather hose pulled out of bottom of airbox or off of rear rocker cover & blowing oil, or (2) rear rocker box gasket. (1) is easy to check and fix (2) is more likely. If you remove your seat and use a flashlight you should be able to look around the rear head and see if that's the source of oil. |

Thanks. The hoses poke thru the bottom of the plate ok, so it must be gasket time. |

I pulled the fan out and my ohmmeter shows a dead short across the terminals. Ordered a new one and a rockerbox gasket set from http://www.americansportbike.com/ Now I'll have to read up on the best way to get at the rear cylinder head. |

How much transmission oil have you got in the gearbox? IIRC, the breather fires pretty much into the fan... |

I checked the primary level yesterday and it was normal. The head has some staining, but the cylinder fins below are sparklin' clean. The top of the left crankcase half under the cylinder is oily. |

Aus, by keyswitch fuse, do you mean the ACC fuse? What component got hit by the oil that caused that fuse to blow? |
