trust me, i ride the hell outta the bike. but i do a lot of slow speed riding here on the Marine base i'm stationed on. the slow speed is where the problems are. i hate being at a light and having that beast popping and choking sitting at the lights. as for the breather mod, what do you mean? |

only thing different I would recommend from this write up is putting a catch can instead of just draining the hose like they did so that you do not have to drain it as often but that is just me. |

Have you checked for any ECM trouble codes? That would be the first thing to do Popping through the intake is usually caused by a lean condition. Extreme causes, leaking intake, external or internal, low fuel pressure, severely retarded timing. |

i'll reroute the breather later this week. as far as the ecm codes go, there weren't any that i saw on the computer. i haven't found any leaks, and the fuel map looks pretty good.the timing charts looked good as well, but i didn't have much time to pour over it like i wanted. i guess i'll just have to start at the top and run through it all over again. any other input is always welcomed. i'll update as soon as i find anything else. |

You have that yellow XB12R from Robinson Motorsports. You haven't had it very long. Did it run like that when you tried it/bought it? or did you make some changes besides adjusting the TPS and then the idle/low speed issues started? |

Reflective insulation on bottom of airbox, inside of frame, and under seat: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DEI-050502/ Catch can: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.as p?RecID=4703 outlet filter: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CUR-CE-9028/ You'll need a T fitting of some kind and some 3/8 ID hose and some 1/4 ID hose. Fittings on the catchcan are 1/4 inch. |

that's the same bike. it was gravy when i bought it, but it's been a little stubborn lately.it started to stumble about two weeks ago. i reset the TPS and adjusted the idle screw, but it's still popping and surging. around town and on the freeway and back roads, it's perfectly fine. but between idle and about 2000 rpms, throttle less than 15%, it chugs and backfires through the intake. i haven't done anything to change it besides the two already. i'm hoping to have it fixed by this weekend for the ride up to Julian, CA. just haven't really got much time to devote at the moment. |

The Breather reroute will not fix the problem. All that is so the bike doesn't reburn what doesn't get burned first time around. Actually a mod that won't fix your issue nor will it improve HP. |

It ran well when you bought it, are you fairly certain the TPS is adjusted correctly? What did you set the idle speed rpm at? BTW if you randomly just start it and shut it off to show your buddies how cool your ride is, it will tend to foul the plugs. Have you looked at them? The front plug is much easier to get at than the rear, you can at least get an idea if fouling is an issue. |

Running around at under 2000 rpm seems to make my 03 start to get problems. It seems to need to be cranked open fairly often and really wants to be run at 3000 or above. |

Funny.... but check your battery. If its not charging because of age it can make these bikes run bad. But do a intake leak test by spraying some wd-40 around the seal's while its running. If the idle changes you got a leak if it stumbles. |

Find some carb cleaner or similar, that you can spray in the intake and causes the engine to rev up. Then spray it all around the intake seals and spark plugs. If the engine revs up, you know you have a leak. I'd check the plugs to if you haven't already. |

john at robinson motorsports said he changed/topped off all fluids along with a plug change. i checked the fluids before i rode it away and they were kosher. the plugs look brand new from outside the bike, but i'll go ahead and pull them off later today or tomorrow. i sure hope i catch a break with work so i can spend some time with the bike. i love it too much to just let it sit and get dusty. i'll update as soon as i get the chance. thanks for all the ideas. |

I may be way off the mark........... I reckon the ECM learns as you ride it. I've had trouble with my bike when riding up and down the street, but after I ride it at 3000rpm for a couple of minutes, it seems to run heaps better. Maybe it just clears the plugs, i dunno.... |
