Hey guys, just wanted to see what the easiest way is to wrap the headers on my 12r would be. i know i'm probably gonna have to take off the head pipes so i can get to them better. i've also got an ecm spy cable on the way. i found out that my bike has the stock ecm, and is running with a drummer pipe. i'm fairly certain that is the reason for the low rpm stuttering. any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys! |

U can wrap the headers on the bike. Wet the wrap first as it reduces the fiberglass dust. When finished, start the motor to cure the wrap. When dry, use aluminum foil to cover the engine, a drop cloth on the rest of the bike and paint it with header wrap paint. The drummer can was designed to work with the stock settings, but can be tuned for better performance. I am not a tuner. Enjoy! |

i got good reluslts with wrapping the pipes with out removing them. the next winter, i removed them to re-wrap, and the results were similar. i wouldn't take them off just to wrap. bit if you've allready got the bike torn apart.... |

thanks. the bike isn't torn down because it's my daily driver. i don't think it'll be that hard to wrap them still on the bike, just a little hard to get to in a couple spots. but i'll manage. i got the black wrap, gonna put that on then get some black high-temp paint tomorrow. i think i'll be able to make it look pretty good. thank's for the input, you guys are great. |

I just just wrapped mine while still on. Turned out better than expected. I used about 8 metres and got good even coverage. Used S/S fasteners at each end to keep in place. |

I ca't see any logical reason for wrapping exhaust pipes, it really does nothing for performance on the street. I could see wrapping your exhaust if you had a banged up or homemade steel pipes as on a homemade chopper. From what I read at other sites alot of buells run on dynos with wrapped headers, it made no additional horse power. Maybe I'm to old but I would rather look at stainless steel pipes instead of something that looks like ace bandage. |

just put the wrap on, and i don't think it turned out half bad for my first attempt. i live the look of the headers, but the previous owner painted them black. i'm gonna paint it later this week when i have a little time.

Looks good mang!!!!! It's not as tough as I thought it'd be, did mine saturday night. Did plain colors though because I have full fairing covers it up. Can't wait to get it into traffic and see if it kills the infamous right-side-burn! |

Bwell if your to lazy to get some wd 40 and a green pad to srcubb for 20 min then wraping is the way to go. Keep in mind if you get a good right side scoop it will reduce the heat comming off your header.

Dahays now i understand why you would defile your bike in such a way. That sticker of the harley sheild on your clutch cover says it all. You think your riding a sportster. Anything covering any part of a sportster is good. Keep in mind Buell people we can talk trash in fun so dont respond with a bunch of harley fag cry baby attitudes. Its all in fun. |

Is that a MoCo timing cover? Should probably turn that upside down. |

Hey Brightbuell, when you say green pad are you talking about those green scotchbright pads. Your headers look great. Was wondering what I needed to do to get mine looking new again. |

hey brightbuell, the bike came with the Harley cover on it. and just for the record, if i wanted a sportster, i'd have a sportster... and greg_e, it's riveted. otherwise i would gladly turn it upside down just to make it a little more different. trust me guys, the wrap helped a bunch on the heat. i rode down the 52 to the beach to come back on some twisties and it wasn't near as bad as the last time. all in all, i think it was a good investment. |

Im just talking smack, do what you gota do to deal with the heat. Green scotch bright pads and wd 40 is all i use to polish my headers. spray the pad and 1 hour or less you got gleaming headers. |

The rivets can loosen up and the cover will vibrate enlarging the holes. If you are careful when drilling the rivets, you can tap the stock holes for #10-32 screws and then not have to worry about the rivets again. My stock cover has rather oblong holes in it, but now the screws keep it tight. Need to buy a new one sometime so it looks pretty. |

thanks greg_e. i'll see what i can do about flipping that cover over for ya. and brightbuell, if i'm ever in your neck of the woods, i'll swing by to teach you how to ride. haha. i might try to brighten the headers when i get back from deployment. all in time... |

Just be careful drilling them out, I only went 'til the heads fell off. Then pull the other screws out so you have the real cover plate in your hand, then you can tap the holes. |
