I'd like to install an electrical oil temp gauge on my XB9SL and am wondering which line is most appropriate to install the T on. I think I remember seeing 5 lines in all: one from cooler to filter base, one from cooler to engine, and three from swingarm to engine. I have no idea what the flow direction is on any of the lines, hence my dilemma. I'd like to put it on a line carrying oil away from the motor but before it flows into either the cooler or swingarm (for accuracy's sake). No, I don't have the service manual; and yes, I should by now (but I'm not even sure if it has the oil system schematic).

For factory folks lurking around: Given that the oil is a component of the engine's cooling system I'd like to see oil temp added as a mode on the LCD display for future models. I think most of us would pay the extra $15 per bike (sender, wiring and software change) to know if we're running the oil under 212 in the winter or over 250 in the summer. And, make the dipstick a color that contrasts with dark brown

Thanks...

It has an absolutely beautifully stunning schematic of the oil paths (from multiple angles as I recall).

Ditto on the LCD display.
