Success in Suches!

The Buell Motorcycle Company's Dealer Demo Event program allows for a full-scale demo fleet to set up and offer test-rides at a dealer's event. Greg Becker and Cameron Ayer of Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell, with a desire to support the cutting-edge line of Buell motorcycles and heighten its profile in the market place, quickly checked the program itinerary and scheduled the "March Badness" Demo Event for March 20 and 21 in Suches, Georgia.

Nestled in the North Georgia mountains, Suches is home to a motorcycle lodge/resort visited by motorcyclists from around the world - Two Wheels Only - a perfect home-base for experiencing some of our country's best scenic views, with miles of extreme twisties and dramatic views. When asked, Britt and Greg (G.T.) Turner, owners/operators of T.W.O., welcomed the event to their facility, even though they weren't scheduled to open for weeks to come. Everything, including a police escort for the 53'Tractor trailer the demo program uses, was worked into the busy schedule of Gary and Lois Cravillion who run the big rig around the country and manage the demo events. Finally, the dealer and 3% Bragging Rights Club members, Stone Mountain's local BRAG chapter filled event-staffing needs. Everything was set for "March Badness" in Suches. Nearly a dozen new Buell motorcycles, a V-Rod, an '04 Sportster1200R, incedible curvies, great people, hot food waiting, and a place to sleep are the ingredients for an event where motorcyclists could get a ride experience not possible while demo-ing from any dealership. With everything in place, everyone's hopes were set on raising the bar for future demo-ride events. (The bar to raise, 147 rides in a two-day event, had been put in place many years prior at Dayton's "Bike Week" Buell Demo Event). People started to show up at T.W.O. on the morning of the twentieth from all walks of life on a full spectrum of motorcycles. Manufacturers from Japan, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Austria and of course America were represented by their enthusiasts. As in love as each person is with his or her own machine, everyone was there to ride something "Different in every sense". After each ride of about twelve miles through turns worth writing home about, the main comments overheard were "more" and "faster". In fact, 47% of the people who demo-ed a bike, demo-ed another. Some people even spent the night and made time to get in the saddle of each bike. With everyone's effort, enthusiasm, safety, extraordinarily good ride scheduling, and bikes engineered for the real world environment, the bar was raised by almost 100 rides. It was a success. The event truly was one to remember.

E-mails from participants showered the Turners of T.W.O. Stone Mountain H-D & Buell also received e-mails from folks who had ridden, some who were sorry to have missed it, and people who want to come to the next Buell Demo Event. The Cravillions also received e-mails of unsolicited praise and their comment cards were filled with informed motorcyclists' insight, not just "cool bikes... more wheelies. "Plus, the Turners and S.M.H.D. & Buell forwarded copies of e-mails they had received on to the Cravillions. As a part of procedure, all demo feedback is sent on to Buell Corporate. Word of the event's success made it to the top and praise made it all the way back down. In a sport motorcycling world engulfed by reply-racers and race bikes with mirrors and signals, it seems clear that the Buell Motorcycle Company's sport bikes built for the real world are perfect for riding there. With events like this one, people are becoming more aware of their ability to go harder through the turns with greater ease on a Buell. Buell Motorcycle Company, the Cravillions, T.W.O., Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson & Buell, and the 3% Bragging Rights Club all have their sights set on making the "March Badness" Dealer Demo Event in Suches an annual happening. Come experience what the fuss is about and give yourself the opportunity to "Own The Corners".
