Just took off my exhaust to send it to Kevin at Drummer for a repair... Is it okay to ride around the neighborhood a bit like this? Is it okay to "get on it"? Just want to experience an open exhaust for 10 minutes . Thanks |

No support for the headers, would be easy to shake them and break the studs. Then there is the fire shooting out of the header right in front of the engine. Could burn clutch cable. And of course the noise. |

That would be the highlight!(Noise & flames) |

With no back pressure at all I'd be concerned about damaging the top end. But then again, lots of people run sportsters with straight pipes all the time. Just won't run right. |

I don't know for sure but I'm thinking it will run lean and may harm the exhaust valves. I would wait. And if....When you fire it up in the garage with straight headers wear some ear plugs. It will hurt you. |

Rode my XB12Ss for a couple of weeks with just the header while the slip-on was getting ceramic coated. Sounded good to me, bike still runs fine thousands of miles later. I would be very surprised if it caused any internal damage. YMMV, Nels |

Yeah I'm just talking 5 minutes or so just to hear it, started it up in the garage and gave it a blip or two. The sound was insane. |

You should try it under load(i.e. while riding) over 3k. And the engine braking reminds me of the old IMSA cars... <sigh> good times. YMMV, Nels |

Might as well never put it back on.Just run it without.I'm sure it won't hurt anything. The factory just puts exhaust on there for looks...... |

IME, the factory muffler is in place to conform with noise emissions requirements for road going vehicles and to serve as a jacking point for the motorcycle. Also, there are probably some who would find the noise of an uncapped XB less than euphonious or too loud. While some here may have seen engine damage as a direct result of running without a muffler(citation please or it's just conjecture) I have run my bike without the muffler and seen no damage. Just another data point. And as always YMMV, Nels |

I think you should still support the end of the header and really should pipe the exhaust to someplace a little more out of the way. A proper tune to keep it from running too lean would be a good idea. Not much difference between a Jardine and a straight pipe except the Jardine attempts to quiet things down a little if the gasses have a chance to expand into the packing. |

Thanks guys I just wanted to ride around the block to hear it rour... sounds insane in the garage. Just sending in my Drummer, has a loose baffle or something and I have been getting an occasional lack of power down low, assuming its because of said loose piece. Either way I want it fixed and Kevin said he will take care of it, hence why I don't have my exhaust on now. It will go back on. |

Yes, I could see how a loose exhaust clamp would allow the heavy muffler to move around and place more stress on the headers leading to a crack. Although additional support as Greg advocates isn't a bad idea, the headers are incredibly light and I never felt the header bolts were ever stressed more than with the muffler. YMMV, Nels |

Sorry no vid but took it for a spin... just a few miles, a few very small wheelies (foot or two in the air), some roll ons, sounds awesome. The best is a quick blip style downshift into 1st or 2nd, pop pop vroooommm pop pop poooop. Very cool sounding... In the garage until the rattling Drummer is repaired but it was a fun experience . |
