Come home on Friday and was early so I took my bike to Chosa's HD/Buell to have them look at my oil leak that Quaids in Temecula had tried fixing twice. (is it ok to name dealerships in here??) Any way, they found that my oil pump has a crack in it, but applied some thread dope and some other sealant and ordered me a new pump, (said that should get me back and forth for a while, until the pump gets in) No problem. Picked her up and drove home yesterday.

Going back to Cali today, I get about 50 miles from Gilbert and about 3/4 mile from the gas station (that I normally stop at) and she started screaming for help. It had to be the most horrific sound I've ever heard. I pulled the clutch in and she died. I coasted over to the side and called the dealership, but they had just closed. So I called the wife to come get me with the truck, ramp and tie downs. Not sure what is wrong with her, but I'm sure it's not good. My bitch is broke and I can't go to work tomorrow......sucks being me. Get to spend my day tomorrow waiting to see whats wrong with her.

Anyone in AZ got a bike you want me put about 1300 miles on it for ya, I'm your man ...let me know...LOL

Doh!

Did you check the oil level before you left the dealer after they patched you?

Ouch! I'm sure that you'll rebuild it stock though and resist the urge to put a 1200cc kit in it. : )

A perhaps equally as important question is:
Did you check the oil level after you came to a stop?

Not, yet, they said it would be a couple of days before they got a tech to look at it, So for now I get to tool around on the wifes Blast. Let me tell you the amount of SH*T that I'm getting for that. The MP at the gate this morning asked me if it was my first bike. And it hasn't stopped from the guy's at work either. At least I am still riding, even if it is a Blast.

Hey, it was the Blast that re-ignited my love of motorcycling in '00. Nothing but fond memories do I have (the vibrations must have removed the bad ones : ]).

So enjoy the Blast and just smile at the grief-givers. They'll never know how much fun it is.

The verdict is in.

The piston rod came loose from the lower end and snapped in half. He said it was well lubricated though so the pump did not fail.

Warranty is buying me a new engine, Thank God I bought the extended warranty.

Down side to all this, I'll still be bike less for about 3 weeks.

I can't handle riding the Blast, that damn low seat just hurts my ass to much. Although I did manage to scrape the left peg twice on it yesterday.

Only the left? Pansy. Find better roads!

Took me three days, but I found a route to work that gets me both pegs every time. Heehee...

There is a good chance they are not pointing to the oil pump as the culprit because they put you back on the bike with a pipe dope repair. That could make the dealer have to buy the motor under the warranty if the insurance co. got that info. Better to call it a major component failure unrelated to lack of oil so the warranty insurance pays for it. It's no harm, no foul from your perspective but may save them about $4500. rather than stuck buying the engine themselves.

I should have 30K by the end of this year. I did not purchase the extended warranty, hope I won't need it.

Kaese,

I didn't think I would need mine either, But it was the best 500 bucks I've ever spent, being that my one year had just expired the day prior.

Darthane,

It's the wifes bike, I didn't want to scrape up her pulley. She won't notice the peg for a while but sure would if I scraped the pulley up.

Chainsaw,

I don't think that will happen in a 3 week period, I'd like to see it though.

Get on you BAD AZZ XB's and Ride!

You won't hurt the pulley until you're WAY down on the right peg...I've accidentally lifted the rear wheel off the ground without hitting the pulley once (taught me my lesson!)

ski,

sorry to hear about your bolt.... that sucks, how would you say you treated your motor during those 30,344 miles? any track days? did your daily commute involve any agressive riding? Just curious thats all.. you had the highest mileage buell ive ever known, just strange Ive never heard of a 50+ K mile XB9/S by now.

Ski,

Any updates? Did they pin the problem's root cause down?

Also, just curious, but what was your daily commute to work (miles)?

In the meantime, ride the piss out of the Blast. Mine's showing bare metal all the way down the bottom of both pegs now, still haven't hit the pulley, been dropped 4 times (durned girlfriend) and keeps popping back up with a "Please, sir, may I have another?" I love this little bike!

Got a call back from the dealer in AZ, Said that they couldn't get all the metal fragments out of the swing arm, so they ordered me a new one. Hopefully it will be in early next week so I can pick it up on the weekend. We'll See
