I am going to buy a new one and the easiest way is to leave the old one and just instal the new one when I get there. It's 65 miles each way. Any issue with doing this? Anything under there that might fall off? Any help or advice would be great. I don't want to strap it to the back as they seem to crack easy. |

If it doesn't rain and you leave the filter and its retainer you should be OK, in my opinion. Oh, and no sand storms. The noise may sound funny, odd to you. |

You can ride even in a down pour with no cover without issue. |

Outer airbox cover is just a cover. Inner airbox cover is another deal entirely (and real important) |

Open airbox kit replaces the cover, not the same as riding without one. |

don't do it I destroyed the top end on a british bike in the 80's by running straight open velocity stacks in only 2 weeks of riding , compression went from 180psi to 30&50psi on both cylinders. Theres enough dirt in the normal air you don't see to destroy and engine quick. Only drag racers run with out air cleaners. If you think the air is clean, the ask nature why your noise has hair inside it to filter out buggers. |

i rode my 9 for a couple years with no filter, but have since put one back on(my nitrous nozzle is somewhat in the way). just a mesh screen in the intake hole. still no oil usage or anything. it'll be fine. take an old sock, or gf/wifes pantyhose would be better and put it over the velocity stack and maybe a zip tie or rubber bands to make sure it doesnt come loose and get sucked in. (this is all assuming we are talking about the inner lid, if its the outer then that doesnt change anything except the looks. |

Panty hose or any of the wire mesh will not filter out te fine dirt or dust that will destroy an engine quickly. So you think you can put panty hose over your nose and mouth and go work in a coal mine safely. To be honest its really stupid to run on the street with out an air cleaner of some type. Look at all the dust you get in inside of your house, this is the same stuff that your engine will be sucking in , but at an increased rate as it is a giant air pump. |

Panty hose or any of the wire mesh will not filter out te fine dirt or dust that will destroy an engine quickly. and who said it would? i just said it would work, and i wasnt worried about much except keeping some big stuff out of his intake for a whole 65 miles. but yes, it may implode... causing a giant mushroom could 40 miles high i mean it destroyed my engine instantly... oops wait my mistake sorry it didnt. but it does only have 26,000 very abusive miles on it. so maybe it hasnt been ridden enough. and i'll be damned, the stupid thing wont lose some oil so i can add some inbetween oil changes too. i wish it would hurry up and start eating it. and my compression was very low last time it was checked too.... oops my mistake again i stand corrected it was well within the good side of the range. So you think you can put panty hose over your nose and mouth and go work in a coal mine safely. sorry ive only done 6 years in a concrete plant and 5 years in a steel plant, no coal mining, but damn those guys. you really think they were given something that nice to filter the air? we never got anything near that nice...
