Ok, been thinking about this for awhile. Want to add more light to the XB9SX. Was wondering what brand or who you went with to add light to the bike. Was thinking about some that would attach to the forks. Also, pictures of your setup would be great. | ||

FYI,those brighter Sylvania replacement bulbs have a lot shorter life span. I've got a 35watt DDM HID for my low beam and it overpowers my stock high beam, dual 55watt HIDs must be CRAZY bright! | ||

Wfhaag how did you mount the ballasts in front housing? I got the measurements for the ballasts and made a mock ones up. It dosent look like they would fit. | ||

I will try to get some pics for you after work. I had to move the horn but they will fit in behind the windshield. I used ty-wraps to mount them. It is a tight fit but they will fit. There was a thread going around about a year ago with what parts to buy and such. I will try and find that and repost. | ||

The DDM setup is plug and play. No wire cutting at all. It is a tight fit behind the windscreen but I managed to get both ballsats in there. The 55 watts are stupid bright and I love it. Silverstars don't hold a candle to the HIDs and are about the same price. | ||

I'm curious to know, how hard is it to install one of these DDM kits and how long does it take? Any chance there is a DYI with pics showing how to install? Is this the same kit your guys are running http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Sing le-Motorcycle-HID-Kit ? | ||

Not at all.
It takes longer to get the flyscreen off than to install it.

Yes, but get the double kit if you plan on converting both bulbs. | ||

I recommend relays (each light would need their own relay), but I currently run off the factory wiring. Don't bother with the relay kits from DDM, they are made for cars so the wiring is way too long in most spots and way too short in others. | ||

and you can fit one (1) regular ballast (a little larger than a box of cigarettes) behind the flyscreen if you move the horn over to the clutch side. if you wanna go over-kill  and do the high beams too, you'll need the smaller ballasts (just smaller than a deck of cards) or loose/re-locate your horn | ||

I'm using the dual 55watt with the stock wiring and no relays or timers. Works fine. I have the dual light mod done. Once the high beam warms up changing from high to low and back in traffic at night there is no warm up time required for the high beam. Both ballasts fit behind the wind screen. I still have my horn in the stock location. Just moved my signal relay around a bit. (Message edited by phazernut on May 29, 2010) | ||

Thanx for the reply Phazernut , any issues with cars coming at you when using the low beam ....... like every 5th car flashing at you , or at traffic light. I have also done the dual light mod , The more light the better as long as its not to painfull to every other motorist. What color ...3000K , 4500K ? (Message edited by sokota on May 30, 2010) | ||

I know even sylvania says the lifespan is shorter but i run them in all my vehicles high low and foglight on my camaro with no problems for 3 years high and low on s10 for 2 years no problem and both buells with both high and low with no problems with that said now that i know this is a full plug and play I will be getting this for my lightning. (maybe my girls gixxer, honda car and my s10 if I can) | ||

I ran SilverStars in a car with daytime running lights... They would only last about a year running it every day for two hours, everything else lasts way longer. So in a bike where it is on all the time, it will live a shorter life than other lamps that have a lower output. I would suggest the next lamp down the scale as being a better lasting lamp. Of course if you don't put 15,000 on your bike each year, the SilverStars would last you a while and do give more light per watt than other lamps. At some point two of these will be going in my bike: http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=4924 (currently back ordered) If you buy the correct pattern, they are DOT legal so you can actually legally mod you lights. I have 6000k in mine. No issues with being flashed at low beam. High beam with both lights on is another story. | ||

If your headlights are adjusted correctly you shouldn't have issues with oncoming drivers, no matter how bright your lights are. | ||

It is mostly the older bulbs. The new ones do last. The old bulbs would last a year tops in my car back when I had it, then I put in the new Silverstar Ultras and they went 3 years till I sold it, they probably are still working. My luck with the XB is bulbs seem to burn out around 15k miles. This includes stock, PIAA, and Silverstar. So far my DDM HID kit is the only thing to out last them.
Yea, and using the HID kit will require more adjustment and tweaking, but it can be done | ||

all my vehicles have day time running lights and ive had no problems with any of them. the camaro run daytime running lights and foglights on and has been that way for 3 years. the s10 also runs on daytime running lights with countless 12 hr trips from fl again no problems. of course we know the bikes run full time. my 04 buell use to get about 10000 miles a year wan no problems there either. my point is I would swear buy the sylvania bulbs especially if you add up the money i have invested in them. Obviously Im not arguing that the H.I.D.S would be a better investment. | ||

The last two sets of silverstars I bought didn't last very long either in my Jeep and in my Ford. I guess you had to have ridden older bikes to appreciate the lights on the newer ones. The stock high beam on my Lightning is better than all of my previous bikes except one......I'm STILL going o get some of those HID lights. | ||

I have a ddm kit, it was a very easy install, (35 watt), I did add a delay timer and a new hot lead to the low beam, so it doesnt come on, till the bike is running, It lights up more than enough, maybe past where I can see. the ballast on the left is attached with 3m heavy duty tape, been there over a year, the one up top is tie wrapped in, all i did was move things around a bit behind the screen, (horn bracket)  | ||
