I haven't posted here for a while, but I thought I would write this up because I only found one post by someone with this issue on a XB9R. My headlights went out on February, during a long rainy ride. When I checked them I found that the headlight connector was hanging down under the fairing, instead of being clipped up inside it. It had gotten wet, and corroded, and I could not get it apart. I sprayed it full of contact cleaner, and pulled on it a lot trying to get it apart, and finally when I checked the headlights they were magically working again. This is the white connector in this photo with the fairing off. http://davewilson.cc/Misc/BlosxomPhotos/2010Photos /headlight1.JPG So the headlights magically went out again last week. This time banging the connector got me home, but that was it. So I broke down and bought a new headlight assembly compete with harness. I had to cut and dremel the old connector out of the female connector, but I finally got it out. The plastic around the ground pin was melted and corroded. I put dielectric grease on the pins, put it back together, and the headlights came back on bright. The connector might have been left hanging down when I had the recall done a couple years ago. http://davewilson.cc/Misc/BlosxomPhotos/2010Photos /headlight2.JPG |
