Anyone know if any of the scoops will fit under the Sharkskinz full fairings? I have no ram air scoop/intake scoop, no left or right side scoops. Would like all 3, but worried they won't fit. I've tried finding them at local shops so I can maybe test fit it in the parking lot, but all 3 have to be ordered. And they're not cheap, so don't wanna order and then not be able to use them. I know there is the regular right side scoop and the extra large one, i would go for the regular as it would have best chance.

ALL the scoops will fit under the sharkskins.
However all scoops will cause you to need to modify your two forward mounting brackets. Or you could make your twist connectors attach directly to the outside of the scoops. Drill new holes.

Now the LEFT oem and aftermarket scoops will not interfere with the alignment of the bodywork. But the RIGHT side scoops that mirror the oem left side will cause the bodywork to buldge out about an inch. My right scoop is from Trojan Horse racing in the UK. Same size as the oem left.

Now of the Buell RIGHT side comfort kit scoops there are two- the large profile and the low profile. I am certain the low profile will work but from the image I'm looking at it doesn't look like it will get much cooling to the rear cylinder. I am ordering the large profile scoop to try. I will let you know.

But at any rate if you are OK with the right side of your fairing bulging a bit on the right (only you will notice) put both scoops on.

Wow, thanks keys!!!

Yeah I probably won't mind too much. Cooling is more important for a small sacrafice in asthetics! I figured this thread was gonna die on the spot.

Just looked at your profile, your bike is sick!!! Have you thought about 1125R mirrors at all? Love mine. You have oem headlight bezels and they fit?

Thanks again!

Yes, I'm definitely considering 1125r mirrors. My carbon fiber light bezels are on my stock fairing. My sharkskinz don't have any headlight openings.

Just curious, How long have you been running your jardine with your full fairing?

OK, the scoop I was recommending is this one:

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A17360.html

It will cool as well as the more expensive ones do and from what I remember it is a little narrower and should fit under your bodywork better.

I've only had my sharkskinz for one ride. I ran the stock bodywork and both scoops for 5 years in the Texas heat and my fan never come on. I thought it might not be working. But today with the full bodywork and only one scoop the fan was on after the bike was shut off.

I was planning to keep my expensive right side scoop for when I'm running my stock bodywork and using the $50 one for under the sharkskinz. That way if I need to cut it, no pain.

If you get one let me know how it works out. Thanks

Keys,

I was going to go with this scoop...

http://www.diesel-moto.com/newproducts/xb/carbon-r ight-side-air-scoop.html

...till I saw the price on the other. Ain't the web great!

I also have the Sebimoto piece that wraps around the shock and directs the hot air out. It's in the crate and not on the bike as yet.

Thanks for the tips Keys and everyone!!

Yeah, when I bought the bike about 2 years ago it came with sharskinz (street version) and jardine. Been running it ever since, but its blown the rivets so looking for another. Don't have the $400 for a D&D or Spec Ops though. I'm trying to figure out if headlight bezels will fit the sharkskinz, someone told me they wouldn't even though they have the moulds around the headlight for it, someone told me they would. Don't wanna make a $65 mistake lol. Thanks for the info on the scoops! My fan as of now only turns on when I turn the bike off, sometimes it will turn on if we're doing crazy fast grouprides through west virginia backroads and such. I'll let ya know!

Do you have all the pieces to the Jardine?
If you do, it's really simple to re-build.
Packing is pretty cheap too, that a rivet gun, rivets, and you're all set.

Inlet? You mean the tube that goes through the middle? Yeah. Wrapped it in American Sport Bike jardine repack kit and shoved it back in there.

Your piece is shaped like this for the shock:

http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInfo.aspx?product id=SL001167C

It's got to be a good idea because isn't that the same shape as the comfort kit piece they made for the ulysses? I just don't understand how it fits on the bike..

Also xb1221, your left side airduct here:

http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInfo.aspx?product id=SL001068C

Does that direct any air to the rear cylinder or to the frame opening to the airbox? Or does it just direct air to the bigger oil cooler? For that matter is it better to have cooler oil or a cooler rear cylinder? I'm guessing oil but please jump in here anyone.

B00stzx3 have you considered buying some old oem bezels from ebay and checking them for fit. Or maybe AL at www.americansportbike.com will let you return the cf bezels if they don't work.. Can't hurt to ask he's a great help.

The reason I was asking about the Jardine is that when I rev the bike with the full fairing on they start flapping like a flag in a storm. But it sounds like your bodywork has held up. And I guess if the bodywork can survive the headers of xb1221's bike my little jardine won't cause any problems. If you do go with jardine again you might want to put a hose clamp around the rivets (fore and aft) so they can't back out. They do make them that long, by the way.

Yeah I think they did weld on that extra pipe to get it out away from the fairing. When I got my fairing it was cut for a micron exhaust. Well my jardine MELTED the lip that was left over that curled around the micron. MELTED. It has since been trimmed.

I'm hoping that is also gets air to that rear cylinder.
You're not going to displace a lot of engine heat through the oil.
That being said, there are people running the same bodywork and no one I know of has had the engine go into skip mode with the bodywork on.

Can't hurt to ask he's a great help.

Keys,

Left side air scoop feeds both the oil cooler and the air intake. Bike came without the air box cover rubber front gasket so a lot of air is coming in their. No riding in the rain or going through car washes till I get a new one.

Lots of chatter about right side air scoops and their effectiveness. The Sebi piece that fits in front of the shock and directs air out and below the sub-frame hasn't been tried very much. I have that part and will be trying it. Does anyone know of "poor man's way" of rigging up a temp sensor with a real temp reading or will the ECMSpy I have do that for me? That would give me real feel temp reading with and without. Otherwise a meat thermometer hanging in the breeze may have to work.

I'm looking at the right side scoops and the "water buffalo" headers I'm running won't allow some of these designs. Isn't the room or I'd have to trim off most of the scoop that starts out at the front of the fairing.

More to follow.

Glitch, thank you for the insight into the oil versus air question. If I can throw one back at you.

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/9256.html

My after ride today temp read at 140degrees. What high/low range should I consider acceptable.

thank you

I'm not real sure to be honest with you.
But 140 sounds reasonable.
Just remember, if the bike gets to hot, the ECM will shut down the rear cylinder, "skip mode".

My "stock" (ok unfaired) 06 XB12 normally runs the oil around 180°F. Plus/minus a bit depending on the day, only time I have seen below 140 was when it was below freezing out.

Wow, won't go so far as to say that your bike will run cooler with a full fairing..joking.. But it sure didn't run hot. At any rate I was trying to take it easy but 140 is incredibly reasonable. If not remarkable.

I had tried to affix some ribbon to the inside of the fairing to see where air might be flowing under the fairing but my tape quickly failed and they flew off. It's an experiment worth repeating though. I wanted to see what kind of flow was going into my stock scoop juxtaposed against the side not running any scoop.

I think perception of heat may be playing into this. Wrapped headers and a thermal barrier under your seat MIGHT be more critical to you feeling comfortable with your full fairing than would merely having a scoop or two.

What kind of wrap? Hope you aren't painting it white either, I'll probably fix that mistake in a few weeks when I decide on frame and seat insulation and what type of catch can I want to put in (and buy a new jack and machine an adapter to fit the front muffler mount "tab").

DEI wrap. Its at Advanced Auto for like $20 or $30. Doesn't matter what color really, pretty much hidden behind the sharkskinz : ) Heat insulation, have you seen Odie's heat shields?
