I'm gonna make the attempt to save the old one off of Mad Max and attach it to the new airbox, are these things glued on?? |

A super strong secret adhesive. I suggest heat from the bottom and fishing line/unwaxed dental floss. Oh yeah and lots of patience. Jimmy |

What Bishop said. Sawing motion with fishing line worked for me. Any ideas as to what the adhesive is? I used 2 sided 3M foam tape to reattach mine, but I'd like to have the X closer to the airbox like stock. |

I'm gonna guess it's synthetic bug guts. |

Speaking of which, I'd like to have X if anyone has one. |

When I removed the X from my airbox cover I used a hair dryer to soften up the adhesive and I did it from the top because the X itself conducts heat a lot better than the plastic that the tank cover made of. I slipped a razor blade under the corner of the X to have something to grab onto and then I just pulled it right off. Took about 90 seconds. Another couple of minutes with a rotary sander to remove the excess glue and you couldn't tell it was ever there. |

Just took my X off and man, what an adhesive mess underneath. If it takes me forever to get that solidified glue junk off the cover I may just reattach the X and think about Plan B. |

The adhesive under my X is hard and doesn't soften or dissolve. I'm going to have to sand & polish it off. Maybe they switched adhesives in later years, but the stuff they used in June '04 is like Super Glue. |

I just took mine off and it is like a hard glue as well. Going to fiddle with it today and try to get it off. If I can't get it off the "X" is going back on. |

Goo Gone doesn't even begin to touch it. I've heard there is some type of 3m adhesive remover that'll get it off, that'll be the last chemical I try. If the 3m remover doesn't work I am gonna grind it off too. |

Please keep us posted. I want that off of my bike as well but don't want to destroy my cover doing it... |
