i have a vibration that comes in at 3,500 to 4,000 rpm.
i suspect a bad mount somewhere. i was wondering how do you tell when the front isolator/mount is bad? on the tubers it's easy to see but not so much on the xb.
i can kinda see some rubber coming up from inside the thing on the right side, about 1/16 inch maybe.

well i closely examined the front mount & i'm pretty sure it's ok.
the vibe is an engine speed frequency that is really bad at 4,000 (right where it used to be smooth as silk!) and happens to be my cruising speed. i did track days for a solid year on the bike then raced it hard for another year. (a little history) so the bike has been beat pretty hard : )
visual inspection of mounts and tie-bars looks ok to me.
i'm afraid the engine might be exploding shortly if i don't figure this out lol

It'll be OK.... adjust the primary chain... and I bet you'll be good to go.

+1 on primary chain. You described the symptoms of a loose chain perfectly.

Is it kind of like a pulse...

that comes on and goes away.....
that comes on and goes away.....
that comes on and goes away.....
that comes on and goes away.....

in a nice steady rhythm

Nukeblue- you know to measure the total deflection, right? Push up on chain, then down, and measure the total distance it moves. Your description "really bad at 4,000 (right where it used to be smooth as silk!)" is exactly how my Uly felt when the chain got loose.

If that's definitely not it, search the Big, Bad, and Dirty forum for pics of bad front isolators. Some of them had to be removed before the problem could be spotted.
