Noticed today that the fan on my XB9SX acts alot differently than the fan on my XB12R did. I have noticed it come on maybe once, after sitting for a good while in traffic at near 90 degree temps. On my XB12R, it would kick on in 60 degree weather even on short rides. The main difference I have seen though is when shutting the bike off after a ride. No matter how long I have ridden the bike, the fan takes a good full minute after the bike has been shut off to kick on. I never experienced this once on the firebolt. Is this a common thing with the XB9SX, or is something up? Mods are Drummer pipe, XB9 race ECM, K&N air filter, and header wrap. |

There is a key-off delay setting in the EEPROM. If you are familiar ECMSpy I can walk you thru the process of finding it and changing it if neccessary. (Message edited by terrys1980 on April 18, 2010) |

Mine used to come on quite a bit until I got the big right side scoop and now it doesn't come on nearly as much. When it's extremely hot and I'm just putting along in traffic it will eventually come on. Always comes on right after shutdown except the shorty rides or the last few ones which have been sub 30s. |

Still need to build a cable for ECMSpy. Didn't know there was a delay option. Maybe I will build a cable with my b-day money coming up. I was just worried of the bike trying to overheat once I start riding in near 100 temps this summer. |

I have no scoops and only time it comes on is when I turn the bike off. But yeah +1 @ Terrys1980, you can change the fan and all kindsa stuff through ECMSpy. Worth it's weight in gold and it's free to boot! @Randomchaos - Xopti sells the cable "kit" for $30 shipped I believe. That's the route I went. Its extremley easy to put together and I love DIY and seeing how things work so it was no brainer. |

I have no scoops and only time it comes on is when I turn the bike off. Same here, unless it's hot out, then it's not often, the only reason I know it's on is the seat gets warmer. I think the 9s run a bit cooler than the 12s, and way cooler than the Ulys. |

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on making the cable myself too, will contact Xopti now about it |

Well, had the bike vapor lock on me one hot ass day after a ride through traffic. Heat index of 105-110 =\. Fan never kicked on while in traffic. Shut the bike off, went into store, came back out about 5-10 minutes later, fan was still running. Tried starting the bike, would idle for a second or 2 then sputter out, smelled badly of gas. After letting it sit for awhile, I was able to get it to run fine again. Got my ECMSPY cable and the software loaded up, now where can I check the settings for the key-off delay and also make sure the fan is set to turn on at the right temperature? I am guessing I will have to make some changes to the EEPROM data, but have no idea what line or lines to change the hex codes on. |
