Hey all. This is a minor problem but has irked me. My headlights have melted the little areas around my fairing where the bezels would go. Problem is, the bezels don't fit my Sharkskinz full fairing. I found this thread about it here http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/93377.html?1106194690 So far I've hit them with a little BBQ high-temp paint, but it still looks terrible up close. Was thinking about attaching some high temp plastic pieces right underneath the bottom. Its only melting the bottom ledge right under the lights. Would anyone be interested in this? Since I can't use the bezels, and the BBQ paint looks like azz up close, figured some plain black plastic peices glued on underneath would look good and solve the problem. What do ya'll think? |

I have never heard of this before. Is it due to what the fairings are made of? |

Stock lamps. Pretty sure they were the replaced ones after the recall since everything else has been replaced by previous owner..its a 2003 but has the orange bearings and such. It melted the paint before I had it custom painted. The fairings are Sharkskinz fiberglass. Haven't even put the DDM 55w HIDs in yet! |

HIDs have a lower operating temp. |

Changing your bulb won't do anything. Its the way the sun comes down through the lens. Its been going on with my "bolt since I got it. I just call it character marks. |

True true. Tried taking pics, someone dropped the camera with the lense out and now its all messed up. Tried taking with cell phone camera and didn't turn out well at all. I'mma email Sharkskinz, maybe they have some sort of secret headlight bezels or something. Not banking on it, gonna throw some plastic pieces underneath or just put some of that DEI Reflect a Cool heat shield underneath and rattle can the pieces black. |

You could probably attach an eyebrow to the top of the lights. This should block most of the light that come down through the top of the lens and focuses on the fairing. Alternate is try to always point the bike North when you park. |

It would need to be a DIY unless someone knows of a product. And that assumes that I'm understanding the problem properly. Might need to shell out for the stock trim pieces, wish they were stamped out of aluminum and anodized for the $70 per pair. Another alternate might be some covers for when you park. Hrmmmm. Now have another weekend project!! Can't remember where, but I was told the OEM bezels wouldn't fit Sharkskinz. Even though Sharkskinz has the moulding for the bezels, IIRC the moulding was shallower than OEM fairing and because of that the bezels wouldn't work. Might have to hit up Battley Cycles and see if they fit in the parking lot. Anyone in Maryland got some bezels on hand? I don't wanna spend $60 just to find they don't fit!! |
