ok so i have been asking around trying to find a race map for my 03 xb9 because i just love the power. and well i got my hands on some from some pretty legit people but everytime i open the map in my ecmspy and i look at it in the 3D view its very very messed up.

the first time i saw that i just ignored it and went on with it and burned it on my bike and when i started up the bike it was terrible i never heard such a bad bike so i immediately took it off and put my old one back on.
but back to my question i would like some imput on these and maybe theres something that you have to do to make them smooth out because i got race maps from 2 different people and they both were all messed up. so i put the 04 fuel map on my bike and just left my EEPROM which is running good now but i just kinda want to learn some more about all this.
if you want me to email you the maps i got just let me know.

I had the same problem.
My Buell Race ECM broke, physically broke.
I got a standard ECM, and burned the 03 Race map on it.
The 03 Race map ran like crap.
I used the 04 Race map, and it runs better than it did when I had the Buell Race ECM.

I have a BUEGB231 race map that is supposed to go to an '06 xb9. My stock ecm is BUEIB310. Would it be ok to burn the race EEPROM to my stock ecm?

They're both 06 XB9 maps right?
If so, I would think so.
But, I'm no expert on the matter.
New12r did my re-mapping.

The ECM's are the same, it's the data inside that makes them different.

I'm pretty sure that they are. I've just heard of bricking the ECM if it is done incorrectly. Is there any advantage over having a race ecm over a stock ecm? I will datalog them which ever way I go to make sure that it fits my mods as best as possible. What is different between the two minus fuel and timing?

If it has different firmware it might not work. I would just burn the fuel/timing maps.

Again, I'm no expert on the matter.
There are those like Terry that'll chime in I'm sure.

The later race ECM was somehow different from the stock ECM, the only one ECM that is the same was the 03. I would wait until someone like Gunter sees this thread and speaks up before you flash the complete eeprom. It would be fairly safe to extract the fuel and ignition maps from any year and loading that into your computer.

Yea I don't plan on flashing until I get a definite answer. It runs just fine as is but, like most people on here, always looking for that 1 more hp. I tried to do the timing/fuel maps awhile back and the bike ran like crap. I may try it again and see if it still does it.

Are you copying and pasting the maps from the race map to the stock ecm? Or just loading the maps before burning?

I copied and pasted the timing and fuel maps. What do you mean by loading the maps before burning?

Before I get any further into this, I have never tuned my bike or anyone elses with ECMSpy. If you copied and pasted the maps then you should be good. I meant by loading is just a simple as opening ECMSpy and clicking load map and the click burn map.

If you backed up your current eeprom, there should be little risk in burning a new fuel table. Worst that will happen is it will run poorly and maybe foul the plugs.

O ok I understand what you mean now. Sometimes its kinda hard to understand over the internet. The fuel map I'm running now has about 10 datalogs on it now. Would there be any benefit of getting the timing and fuel off the race map and using those values?

Probably not. How many cells did you make changes in after your last log?

Alot. I just added an exhaust from thou who shall not be named and a K&N filter. It took away some fuel in the middle but added some up in the WOT range. I think that the last log I did changed around 90 cells.

If you are successfully making changes and the bike continues to ride better with more logging there would be no need to revert back to the race maps.

Backup the maps and EEPROM via "fetch" and save it to disk, thrumbdrive, email, that janks important!

I have an 03 XB9 race map gonna load up soon...appereantly from the manual you have to remove the whole fairing!

The ECM interface plugs are accessible on all models without removing any bodywork.

What? Remove the fairing to load a map? I don't think so. The cable on an R are somewhat easily accessed under the left side next to the turn signal wires. If you are smart you'll pull the rubber water seal off the cable otherwise it is a bitch to remove the cable when you are done.

All above said from my 03 9R, others might be different.

I should mention that this is the front fairing area below the speedo and headlights. Reread my post and realized I forgot to mention which end of the bike.

Personally, I would buy the Race ECM, it won't have the issues you describe.

Do some datalogging and find out if you are good or not.

Here it looks like none of those maps will do me any good because it doesn't look like we are going to go back to real gas, looks like stuck with that 10% alcohol stuff all year long now. Been waiting to do some logging but I might give up and start.
