My Uly has 20000 miles, changed only the belt yet. As there aren't so many spare parts in Europe on stock, I would rather carry more than end the trip because of some minor defect. Actually we shall be two Ulysses so we can split the parts on two bikes. Thanks |

parts? okay: a spare drive belt (pre-stretched/used of course), fuses AND RELAYS, bearings and a press/puller tool(use your imagination), oil, tire plug kit with inflation bottle, levers, shifter assembly and pegs, and clutch cable. a set of bars can be bent back into approximate shape a time or two, and i honestly can't think of anything else right now. 2 bikes? well then take a tow rope. i've been towed by the halved-lengths of my broken dive belt and my leather waist belt. id recommend something a bit longer. unless you happen to be a unreasonably portly fellow |

Maybe wheel bearings!! and some simple tools to remove and in stall them! I have seen some uly,s with damaged wheel bearings! Clutch cable ,oil ,spark plugs ,some spare fuses ,some bolts with the right thread for the buell ,tire repair kit ,ty-raps Put some good tires on the bikes and take also some standard tools you need/can use for your bikes! I wish you a very nice trip! I did a trip to the North cape and Finland last year +- 6500km it,s nice!!

Without a doubt, change the wheel bearings to the upgraded ones BEFORE you leave. Install new cables as well (clutch and throttle). Then you can forget about those things. Not a bad idea to have the spare drive belt and spark plugs. A compressor and tire plugs is a must for me. Bring your spare key! Keep it in your pocket or some other safe place on your body. I like to travel light, so I maintain my bike at home, not the side of the road. Besides, you can't prepare for every conceivable problem. Keep it maintained, and have fun. |

I have new rear bearings and a new spacer in the box ready to go on... Until the current ones fail, Ill just pack them along on any trips. I will also carry a replacement latch for the Hepco's with me. What tires are you running? I love the sync's, but know they have a really thin carcas, so they might not be the right tire for "the middle of freaking nowhere", especially if they are getting worn. |

That's what I was thinking, just change out a few things before going and hopefully carry less. You can get some amazingly small bicycle tire pumps, they just take a long time to pump up a larger tire. Assuming that you are going to put on a fresh set of tires, the wheel bearings make sense, then you can carry a couple of the old bearings for a repair kit. Don't forget that if you take a huge number of parts, you will also need a fairly large number of tools to deal with those parts. And a service manual would be a good idea to go along with all that stuff. As to the spare key, I would probably get one or two of the third party blanks cut and saw the end off so that they are much smaller. If you put it on some sort of ring you can use the ring for leverage to turn the key. |

I've done a lot of trips in the 3,000-5,000 mile range, and I find the more I travel the smaller my kit gets. My advice: Oil, tire plugs, tire pump/mini compressor, small tool roll with the basics and a fresh set of tires. Blue loctite and electrical tape. Cell phone and membership with a towing service is pretty handy too. I also like to carry a little spare fuel, some water and Powerbars too. IMO, Dealing with a breakdown far from home is easier to deal with when you're not hungry/thirsty. |

Lots of good advice here. One thing I can suggest is an extra charged battery for the cell phone. Just in case you are stuck somewhere youre "roaming" and waiting for a call back for someone to find you. Most phones will kill the battery pretty fast in that mode. |

I saw someone else post this - a few phone numbers from the BRAN section from people that live where you're going. speaking of, where are you going? |

I would give my traveling partner the space key and like wise. Assuming you trust each other not to move the bike down the hill and behind a tree in the middle of the night. |

2008xb12scg - I saw someone else post this - a few phone numbers from the BRAN section from people that live where you're going. +100 Experienced the power of Bran directly when I needed to replace a tire on a road trip last weekend - XBDuck down in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia got everything in motion with the dealer, provided tools and expertise, and saw the Uly back on the road with new rubber. It was like having a best buddy away from home! Thanks again Howard! |

My XB9 has 26k on it and I wouldnt hesitate to take it on a 5K trip. I would do my usual check up before a journey like that. Id put a fresh set of tires on and while I had the wheel off I always take a pick and pop the seal out of the bearing and visually inspect them and add a little grease. I might consider a new belt and bring the old with. Change the oil in the trans and engine. |

thanks a lot for so many answers. @2008xb12scg: Starting from Brasov (Romania), Hungary, Austria, Switzerland - 1 day stop to add a friend to the trip - South of France with end in Ramatuelle near Saint Tropez and than back to Switzerland to leave te Swiss guy home and than back home through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary. Everything as much as possible through Alps on twisties, no highways. The question was mostly for spare parts, if we get into complicated repairs we shall find some moto service, it's only we learned that there aren't spare parts on stock for Buell in Europe. Of course bike will be fully serviced before leaving, maybe it a good idea to change bearings and some cables. Spare belt we have. @reepicheep: right now the second set of Pirelli's Sync after the first being Dunlop. Not so happy with any of them. On the 1150GS I use Metzeler Tourance which I find with very good grip and three times lifespan. I would try something else closer to Tourance. |

@brother_in_buells: I was thinking at North cape last year but another friend of mine from Germany told me he waited three weeks in south Sweden for rain to stop and because it didn't, he did the trip through the rain. So I ended up doing Germany, France and North of Spain, which wasn't as interesting as I expected. |
