So i am about to go out an start trying to get my bike back to running right. I changed the plugs, and i have been reading the tunning guide for about two weeks. I DO NOT CLAIM TO KNOW ANYTHING, SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MY MISTAKES, YOU GUYS CAN BE BRUTAL SOMETIMES. So question one, after i reset my TPS, Should I unplug my o2 sensor? Do I physically have to unplug it, or can i just hit the "disconnect o2 sensor" button on ecmspy? I dont have too many questions right now other than that THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANYONE WHO HELPS, I HAVE RECIEVED ALOT OF HELP FROM SOME PEOPLE ON HERE AND I DO GREATTTTTLLLLYY APRECIATE IT!!!!!! GODBLESS YOU, JUSTUN |

Jay, are you using / studying EcmSpy or EcmTune?? I believe only EcmRead works with out 08's. |

You shouldn't be using ECMspy, but the ECMread and Tunerpro. Why do you want to disable the O2 sensors? (Troubleshooting an issue?) It can be disabled no problem in Tunerpro, no need to remove the O2 physically. |

from what the tuning guide says, before i start tuning on a dyno{obviously i dont have a dyno, i have the road} it says to disconnect your o2 sensor, or your maps could be off because of the closed loop learning? I am using ecmSPY, i am looking at ecmread but i plugged ecmspy in today and it seemed to work fine. Is ecmread as easy to use as ecmspy? I just spent the last two weeks TRYING to learn ecmspy, is what i learned relative to ecmread or do i have to start all over and learn a whole other program!? I also have tunerpro, but i am not a harvard math major, i am a welder, im not retarded{shut up guys haha}but some of these maps and graphs are VERY INTIMIDATING. I am not even attempting to change fuell cells in the maps yet, i am just trying to adjust AFV and TPS, to make my bike run properly with my jardine muffler. I am waiting on my exhaust servo emulater to get here from AMERICAN SPORTS BIKE. My ECM is flooding my bike with gas, i am assuming cause of the black oily crap dripping off of fouled plugs. I just replaced the plugs with the NGK'S, cause i fouled the stock harley plugs out from blipping the throtle to hear what my new muffler sounded like, whoops!! Anyways, I think i can lick this problem with plain old ecmspy, but if i cant I will let you know, i will repost either way. Any info you have is much much appreciated, THANKS AGAIN FROGGY, YOU THE adMANastrator |

ECMspy may very well read the live data on 08+ but when you go to save a fuel map back to the ECM you will probably end up with a cycle that no longer runs. If you put a pipe on it without the proper tuning, then you should be lean not rich. If you have an overly rich condition then something else is wrong. |

I am soooo fed up. Is there anyone who can tell me/ or better yet show me a pic of where the idle adjust screw is on a xb12s 2008. I've got ecmspy hooked up, my tps% is 9 and its at 4 degrees. I need to reset the tps before i do anything and i cant find the damn screw for it. It said on the tuning guide it is in between the airsoop, i cant find it for cryin out loud. Someone, anyone? I am soooo tired of this bike not runningg |

Look at the top of the left side scoop from the front of the bike. It's located to the upper left just outside of the scoop. It is set in about an inch. |

There is no idle adjust screw on the DDFI3 bikes, idle is controlled by the ECM. |

Not to be mean or sound like a dick, I recommend you stop what you are doing. Put the stock muffler back on it, ride the thing and see if you continue to have issues with the bike running. Your bike is probably still under warranty, I would then let the dealer figure it out and fix what is wrong with it. |

yeah, I'm with Froggy. ECMSpy was not written for your bike. Your bike does not have an idle adjust screw. Before you damge your bike. I'd back up and study some more. |

Doesn't the 08 allow you to reset the TPS in a simple procedure involving the throttle while the ignition is on but the engine not running? Also you now have several people recommending that you do not use ECMspy on your cycle, so I guess you do as you wish from this point onward. |

EcmRead allows you to read and write data on your ecm - not real time logging like spy. I'm looking into this new software now. Whatever you do, I've been told to adjust values slightly and only if you're certain your bike is sealed correctly and all sensors are functioning properly. Your bike is a DDFI3 and the tuning guide you studied is probably for DDFI1&2. |

So what program do you use for an 08, I appreciate your concern, but i dont have the stock pipe. I rebuilt my bike after i got ran over by some piece of garbage who took off after he dragged me out of the damn road. I tried downloading ecmread but i cant get mono to work properly with it. That last thread just said about ecmread working with "any ecm". So, I said i dont know alot about this, I appreciate your help but i guess it sounds like im on my own. I HATE GOING INTO HARLEY DAVIDSON AND NOW THATS MY ONLY OPTION, GOD I HATE THE STEALERSHIP. Thanks for your time froggy, i do appreciate it. I will let you know how much they ripp me off for |

Dude . Get the ecmread and the tunerpro file to your ecm. From there you can make adjustments to anything. Read into more post under search. there is plenty good info here and on a couple other forums. only use the O2 off during that tuning days map making. then turn it back on because sure as the world the next days weather and ect will be slightly different and the O2 feedback data will tell the ecm what to do. the ecm will keep the fuel at the set value according to the setup fuel on day one. If you leave it off you lose auto correction, making the data not at peek settings in different environments. Its not like carbs where the atmosphere is balanced through the vent tubes equalizing the bowel pressure to the actual pressure and ect. EfI needs correction feedback to adjust. If your not sure what to look at or how to look at it. Its best left to the people who do. Mike |

I don't own an '08, so I only know what I read on the forums. That said, a quick search revealed this procedure for resetting the TPS on an '08: Have the Run/Stop button set to Run. Turn the ignition key to the On position but do not crank or start the engine. Open the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second. Close the throttle fully to the stop and hold it there for one second. Repeat the throttle open/close procedure a total of three times in succession. Turn the ignition key to Off/On/Off/On/Off in succession to complete the procedure. Additionally, there is a link for the owners manual at the top of the XBoard page. |

So its wednesday april 7, I went out to my bike, hooked up ecmspy, observed it running ok, it swithched to closed loop still running ok, I took it for about a 15 min ride, it ran ok!! Its not perfect, i can feel it sputterin or missin just a little bit, of course i kept it at 2500 rpm in fourth gear going about 45-50 the whole time. I am just taking it easy for awhile to see if this is all just a dream or if the ecm is learning what the problem is and correcting or what. I am only using ecmspy as a observing tool because of what froggy and the rest of you guys recommended. I never give up on anything, especially when it comes to my dream bike. I am just gonna keep observing and posting any irregularities i might find. Thanks again for all your help everyone. Justun |

2500? How does it run up at 4000+? My 9R will run at 2500 but it doesn't really like it, likes 3000+ better. I have a feeling you are taking it too easy. Push it up to about 3500 and ride for a little bit to see how it does. Do some second gear full throttle runs from 2500 or so up to near red line and let it coast back down to a reasonable speed. |

why would i want to do that?? I am not gonna do that, im not gonna beat on this bike man, maybe once i ride for at least forty miles i will try some other RPM/THROTTLE POSITIONS but not for a little while, i gota fix this exhaust leak where my jardine meets up with the header. The guy said there is like some kinda mesh wrap or something mesh, i dont know exactly what it is but its to make exhaust fittings more airtight Justun |

I find that if I run at 3k and up rpm, my fuel economy varies slightly (about 1mpg), and the engine runs cooler. These motors were designed to run a little throttle because of the cams. It's not really beating on it. It's just how it was engineered. If I run lower rpm, the motor actually gets hotter. |

Justun, the engines sweetspots for cruising is inbetween 3000 and 4000 RPM. The engines are fine being run at 6000 RPM all day long, they are built for it. (Message edited by froggy on April 07, 2010) |

Wait just a second here... How many miles are on this specific cycle? Was it recently rebuilt and that is why you think you need to take it extremely easy? If so you might want to read some of the break in threads. Some people will say that if you break it in at less than 3000 you will without question build ring leaks. And recommendations are that you cruise at least up to 3500 rpm to let the ECM learn in closed loop mode what is going on. If you don't want to do that, then it's your bike, do what you please but you won't find much help when we are all telling you to do the same thing. |

LCL starts at about 2000 rpm and ends at about 5000 rpm. Depeding on the can, AFV will be crappy in different rpm ranges, it's difficult to predict in which, it's only for sure it will be. |

@ andymnelson Your tps reset directions match my service manual up until your off/on/off/on/off. My manual just says turn to off after working the throttle. Is this something they changed/updated and my manual is missing the addenda?? Anyone?? Thx always |
