My old m2 cyclone is getting tired and hard to get parts for. Would like to get a new buell xb12r or 1125r, but there are not cheap anymore. I am thinking of a ducati if I can't find a buell at a decent price or even a KTM etc. I don't want to pay $8K-$9k for a buell. What would you buy if you couldn't find a buell anymore ? Experience No harleys please |

Multistrada or a GS1200 Adventure. Anyway, the 1125R has a $12k MSRP, getting it at 9k is a steal. |

XBs plenty cheap! Try local craigslist. I've seen many XBs I could use for a track bike..most under 5k! |

The new Multistrada is a nice bike but they are in the $20K price neighborhood. The $750.00 valve clearance checks are pricey, especially when special tools and expensive shims are required. My brother was looking at a used Multi, but the maintenance cost did steer him away. Myself, I am not sure what I would be in lieu of the Buell. The Japanese bikes do nothing for me. I would probably end up with a Duc and do as much of the maintenance as possible. |

Good thing he doesn't own a Buell with its $500+ fork oil changes every 10k miles! The valve schedule on the Multi is 15k miles, thats more than even the 1125R. Also, the Muli has a $15k MSRP for the base model. The Multi is very affordable, and saying its expensive to maintain is like saying that the air cooled Buell's are refined. |

}The valve schedule on the Multi is 15k miles, thats more than even the 1125R. It used to be 6k on the last century's Ducs, and after doing some research, it's probably not that hard to DIY. Glitch, I have not had a chance to swing a leg over one of those Duke 690s, but they do look like a hella lotta fun! |

Froggy, I hope you don't pay $500.00+ for a fork oil change. I was referring to the "S" or the touring model. Their base is approximately $20K. My brother was looking at a used Multi with the 6K valve adjustment. One can do the valve adjustments but there would be a substantial cost for the tools and shims. He is not one to perform that type of work so he would have to pay a dealer. His investigations on service work determined $750.00 for the valve and service work would be on the low side. Don't get me wrong, the new multi is very nice bike. |

Weird, I have an '01 M2 and every time I go out to the garage, it doesn't look old, or feel tired when I ride it, to me. My guess is you just want a different bike? Lot's of bikes are more refined than tubers, including XB's, but nothing feels like it is putting power to the pavement better than a Buell, to me. |

most of us like having something different or exotic but that requires deep pockets usually. Thats why I like the Buell, it's different and exotic without the overhead cost. |

A friend of mine just bought a new o9 buell xb all black SS for $6000 out the door from Gateway harley, saint louis. Yes I said"OUT THE DOOR for $6000". There are still cheap buells out there. Once they are gone from the dealerships the price will go way up so get one now while you can, or you will have to get another bike. |

Yes $500 fork oil changes, my last dealer 10k service was over a grand including tires. The XB's are expensive to maintain. If you want to compare old models, the old XB's required service every 2500 miles. I don't need to look up the chart to tell you that gets very expensive very fast. Yea, no valves to adjust, but you have to deal with every thing else on a constant basis. About the MSRP, the touring version of the XB is $13k if you want to compare apples to apples, and the MS is still leaps and bounds ahead. You get what you pay for. |

Dang Froggy, you need to brush up on your mechanical skillz. I had my first 1000 mile service done at the dealership when I was led to believe I had to, to keep my warranty, $350. Since then the dealership has only gotten $50 to fix my stator under warranty. It's a lot easier for the Do-It-Yourselfer to work on Buells (air-cooled) than most any other bike I've owned. Probably the most simple was my H-2 three cylinder two stoke 750. |

Yea I can't do anything other than an oil change without seriously making things worse. Clutch adjustments? Nope, now it feels like an automatic transmission. Primary chain? Nope, now I grind while shifting. Neither of those are issues on my 1125s, so thats two less things for me to worry about. Oil changes? Pain in the ass to take off chin fairing, then if I don't put it back on 100% correctly it will fall off and melt against the exhaust. The filter and oil part I can do. The 1125 tends to make a bigger mess changing the oil, but it is easier to access the filter and drain plugs, plus filter only comes out every other change. Fork oil - I am screwed regardless, so I will get done at the same time as spark plugs and the valves so I only get nailed once in a while. |

If Buell is out of the question, I'd look at The new Honda VFR1200 or the Yamaha FZ1. If exotic is what your after, I love the speed triple and the Superduke. |

the 1125 buell is the buy of the century at 9K as much as it is at 5K. Glitch I don't think you would like a thruxton its a pretty machine for sure, I traded a guy just after thanksgiving for 30 miles my CR for his Thruxton. Dude I had to have that heavy clunky dinosaur on the stops to try to keep up and with a single rotor up front the 77 KZ stopped better no room for error brother that is a fact. |

Froggy- Went thru these issues myself in Oct. Sold the trusty M2 for an xb12ss. Kinda miss it, but mostly the simplicity. Almost bought a ktm superduke. I realized. The specs werfe very similar to my ss buell. Eerily similar..someone was competing. I liked the superduke, the motor reves a bit quicker, but I had a ktm 950 before and knew that bike takes mainenance. Shim valves, water pumps cr*p out, electric demons.. I passed and bought the Buell when the price dropped. You might think about a ktm 950se for a different ride style.. your gear seems rather focused in one area? |

I didn't buy an XB 12 because I already owned one. I didn't buy an 1125 because at first they didn't work, and then I never could get used to the pods. So I finally bought a 2005 Ducati 999S, for about what a new 1125 would cost. I just love it to death.
I think they are better looking, and more suitable for street riding than the newer model Ducati's, and a lot less money, as they were not a big hit with the Ducati crowd, (the dears:-). Compared to the 1125 I find it better detailed, more beautiful, and better handling, due to the Ohlins, and the lower center of gravity. Of course out of the box the bike is almost unusable, but after gearing it down, and changing the front ride height, steering angle, and setting up the suspension properly, it's just a dream, lower and narrower than an 1125, and doesn't tingle the pegs and bars at high RPM. Then again, all bikes seem to benefit from a bit of tinkering. Made a few changes on my twelve too. The Ducati didn't seem to need as many, if I recall correctly.

I own 12S and one of my riding buddies have a Speed Triple and I can tell you that the Triumph is a very fun bike to own and ride, I'll not think twice about buying one if I decide to purchase another bike, highly recommend a test ride. |
