Went to the local dealer today (Demo Days) and got to ride a 12R...I WANT IT! The problem is that I have an 03 9s w/ around 1300 mi that I put some $$ into...racekit, crossroads bars, freespirit rear sets, I also know I"ll get hosed on trade in, but I liked the ergos better, power delivery better ,talk me out of it! |

Can you keep the rear sets for the 12? |

things i dislike about the 12's... 1. rev limit of 6800 2. more vibration than the 9 3. rev limit of 6800 4. loosing the interactive exhaust hurts, but it's necessary 5. rev limit of 6800 can you tell my big beef. i've riden the snot outta the demo 12r my dealer has and i can't stop slammin' into that rev limit. i'm keeping my 9. if i started on the 12, might be different, but i like the high rpm's. |

Don't blame you (although I have a 12R and love it). After you bore the 9 it'll have all that power AND the revs. |

my other thought, is that the '05 could be better yet....and it's not that far away. if your happy with what you have, ride it. rule of thumb for me, there is ALWAYS something bigger/better/faster/prettier than what you currently have...and it's TOO DAMN PRICEY to try to "chase the dream" if you will. |

You're right,....you're both right,The 12 sure did pull like a train right off the bottom, and the 9 starts about 4000, I guess I should just have both lol! I guess after being out of bikes for 15 or so years I just amazed how much fun both these damed bikes are! |

You could sell some of the extras you put on the old bike. I personally would be interested in the bars. I test rode a '03 XB9 and a '04XB12. I had to have the Big Block! I love the extra grunt from idle up and the amber wheels. Also 2 yr warranty and a better interest rate helped sell me. Let me know if you want to sell any parts. Thanks. JR |

I test rode the 12R on saturday, I liked it , but in my short trip I didnt feel as though i was interacting with it like on the 9S , I didnt need to change gear, I was in 3rd most of the time , its a big old torque monster but i kept hitting that rev limiter as well |

i would take the money you would surely lose by trading up so soon and put that into the 1200 kit for your xb9. the 1200 kit on the 9 is way better than a xb12 in my opinion. i like the short stroke. bore the crap out of it and beat the pants off of a 12. |

yeah bore it. short stroke 1200 has to be a bunch of fun. much cheeper than a new bike too. have your 1200 cc's, and still rev 7500. best of both. |

Take the $4,000 it is going to cost you to get a 12R, buy a R fairing setup and bars, and save the rest for your kids college fund. |

KTM Duke 990... Probably my next bike if I can convince the wife - I really like the 12S but the rev limiter is a pain in the ass - once the bike begins to scream it goes bang into the limiter - the 9 is definitely a more sport oriented motor with the 7500 redline... (i've owned both) |

Kaudette, exactly what I learned from my M2 and why I went with the 9R instead. Duke is too geometric-looking for my tastes. |

Gonna keep it...now if Force gets their s**t together, I'll add to it this next winter...

Yeah the Duke is very geometric but it is also very original and set up (at least in pre-prod) with top notch gear - WP, brembo, LC9, etc... It has 127 hp and 90% of the torque of the 12 while being 35 lbs less - plus the limiter comes in @ 10G so plenty of over-run when the thing winds up. I had a 9R for a year and liked it a lot, just thought it was lacking in the torque dept so I went with the 12 12 mos later - now the 12 is a really nice bike and I will keep it even if I pick up the KTM (assuming I can make space in the garage to be built) but I find the idiosyncracies of the motor, chassis & brakes a bit tiring at times - you really need to keep on top of things all the time. |

My $.02 is keep the 9. The 12 is a fine machine no doubt about it. Between the price of a new bike and the hit you would take on trade in, I think you would be better off with a big bore kit and some headwork. Also if you don't want to spend a whole ton of money on case boring and all that BS you can go with the 1050 kit. You end up with as much or more HP just not as much torque. That's what I decided to go with instead of trading up. |

I think Kaudette's idea is best. More bikes the better. I can't afford the luxury with 3 kids and starting a new job, but as much as you get can get out of the 1050 kit, there will come a day when you want to sell your bike (just like you would your 9) and then you would wish you never did all that stuff. Do the S to R conversion and I bet you will be happy. |
