I can't fine any info on this subject. I have an extra stock muffler I want to mod (for performance/sound) for my XB12XT. Got a link to someone who has done it? |

its easy.you can open it up from front to rear and gut the baffles inside and shorten the rear,or try and fit some other smaller muffler inside the big can and see how that goes. i did a stainless steel muffler and a 90 degree elbow (mandrel bent of course)and did my own.the stock can is a big can and the pipe dumps in at the front and then another pipe dumps it out.mine has tube all the way so i think it flows better than stock would.i think the cuts to open the cAN ARE LIKE A giant H pattern on the bottom for your can.i like the idea of hiding a streetrod type muffler inside the OEM can. scott |

Find an abandoned rail bed as such, run it hard all day, with results of such, Yes that is an official Buell Race Can |

Why not just get a Jardine if you are going to gut it. Same thing, they have an inlet, perforated tube that attaches directly between the inlet and the outlet, some packing inside that you will probably blow out every year or two. Used ones are cheap. I'm sure you could trade that stock muffler for a decent Jardine. I also thought that if you wired the valve open that you basically did the same thing (XB12 muffler). I wonder if you could fix that race muffler with a hydraulic process to push it back out. (Message edited by Greg_E on April 07, 2010) |

City...do you seriously beat the crap outta your bike like that...wow. I took my wife's Scg down a gravel road and I thought I was "living on the wild side" lmao! No wonder you wanted the Griffin to materialize so bad. Why not snatch a Uly up and armor it and go to town? |

I gutted all the internal pipes and the front chamber plate, shortened the can just behind the rear jacking plate (like a drummer or spec. o.p.s.). Put a 2” partially perforated pipe wrapped in steel wool and fiberglass straight thru, filled the rest of the chamber with loose muffler packing. I then made an end plate with a 2 ½” exhaust tip with a tunable butterfly in it and a billet insert. It sounds good but I may have lost some bottom end torque and it doesn’t bother me a bit. The valve in the stock can is a good idea. If you could reverse the way the valve opens so that it directs the exhaust to the side thru the smaller 1 ¾” pipe during low throttle and then open for a straight path then run a glass pack style pipe straight thru during WOT than it would be the best of both worlds. You could do it with either 1 or 2 outlets. I would love to try my idea out on another pipe. I think it would be IDEAL! Here is a pic of the tail pipe with the billet insert.

you can reverse polarity on the actuator in the ecm. This will make it go opposite. you can also set the opening rpm's to your desired setup. its all in the tunerpro . |
