I set out to replace my XB's belt last night. It has about 9000 miles and has 1 small crack so ... better safe than sorry. The one long 5/16" allen head bolt on the swingarm brace stripped out before it loosened. so... Drill the head off and make 1 more trip to Lowes to get a grade 8 replacement bolt. Now to the belt guard... holy crap! It serves its purpose but could any more screws have been used to secure it?

Bottom Line (the end of the rant is near). I will need another rear tire in about 1000 miles so I left the guards off for now. Has anyone who has taken them off, left them off for good and had good belt life? I'd like to and love the look of my Firebolt even more naked than before.

wait till it breaks and put all the '04 stuff on

thats my plan, but first belt 1.5K but I had to go through a bunch of pee gravel with a really sticky back tire.
I took it all off at 33miles

I took my belt guard off a couple days ago. Sounds like I got lucky 'cause I didn't strip any bolts. After the guard removal I only rode a short trip (60 mi.) on clean roadways. Tomorrow I might encounter gravelly roads.

I have to agree, the bike looks much better without the guards. It just looks meaner when naked!

Mike.

I have mine off as well. It looks a lot better. I've heard of guys putting A LOT of miles on their XBs without any problems (with no guard).
