Hey fellow Buellers, This would be my first post, but have been a long time fan of the BWB. I love this site and love these bikes. I have learned so much from this site. My question is...I will pick up my new '03 9s next week. I can't wait. Anything I should have the dealer do to the bike or include with setup before I pick it up? (update any recalls, setup for my weight, etc.) | ||

LOL...unless you really, REALLY trust them, tell them to keep their grubby handsd OFF IT! Check the wheel bearings (the seals should be orange) and the horn wiring to make sure it isn't rubbing on anything. Buy a service manual and learn to love the bike. Stroke it. Pet it. Talk to it. It's your new best friend. | ||

Make'em set the suspension up for you and your weight(with gear on), especially if you don't know how to do it yourself. otherwise as darth said, wheel bearings, and possible kick stand recall if yours is one of the first 9s's ever made. Brian Tilley hd/Buell buckinfubba@hotmail.com | ||

Welcome to BWB. This site rocks I wish I would have joined sooner. Congratulations on the new bike. I am sure there are more than a few threads on suspension set-up here. If the dealer has someone who knows how to do it though I would have them actually show you. Either way set the suspension up for your weight as it makes a huge difference in the ride. | ||

Suspension. Even if they do it... Check it when you get it home. The setup is listed in the manual. If you ask them to set the suspension and they don't ask you for your weight... I don't recommend going back. | ||

Thanks for the info...I'll see what they can do or not do for me. Is suspension setup in the manual or service book you have to buy? Does anyone go with a service plan from their dealer or do you do all of the service yourself? Some places in MN want to charge close to $3,000 for 5 service checkups during a 10,000 mile period...WOW! I was left with my mouth hang'n when I heard that one. Any advice on that? Also...extended warranty or not? I know I have up to a year to decide...but is it worth it? Thanks for the help and I'll try and get some pics of her soon. | ||

The service work is listed in the ownersmanual. Look through it and see if you feel comfortable doing that work. If you are comfortable with a wrench, you may opt to do it yourself with the help of the service manual. Welcome to the Family by the way. Dont feed the bears, please dont start a thread on which oil is best (Mobil 1 Synthetic V-Twin formula, Synthetic Gear lube in the tranny)  Find some twisties and have a great time. Did you get any options with the bike (race kit, etc)? Where abouts ya from? | ||

Loud and clear Midknyte! LOL Thanks guys! Austinrider I live in WI and work in MN, so I'm just southeast of the Twin Cities. Love it up here. Lots of cool back roads and twisties, just have to watch out for farm equipment goin' down the road. Can't wait to carve them up. Hopefully these April showers will get most of the salt and sand off the roads. | ||

Welcome from Canada! You got the right colour! The yellow ones are FASTER (heh!heh!). Suspension settings - read your owner's manual and start with the recommended settings for your weight, then start experimenting. Remember, TINY changes...you'll be amazed at what a 1/4 turn on compression / rebound will do to handling. If you are over 5'7" you will probably be tossing the stock seat pretty soon...the "Streetfighter" seat from Buell is way more comfortable. Ride the hell out of the little yellow bugger (after break-in), you'll grin forever! | ||

Get educated on suspension settings. The XB9's seem to be rather finicky about them and as mentioned, very minor changes will make a significant difference in how the bike handles. I didn't feel like I was getting the bike set up properly until I started using the aggressive suspension settings recommended by Shawn Higbee. If no one posts the link to the thread, you can probably find it using his name and suspension in your search. His settings are much stiffer than those in your manual, but it settled down allot of "oddities" I was experiencing. I set it up for my weight and then backed it off just a tad to soften the ride. Maverick9s, Welcome and hello. I too have a yellow '03 XB9S but mine is of the low variety. The only problem I have had so far has been with the wiring harness as it passes the battery clip. Check it and make sure that if it is rubbing fix it before it shorts out something. It got my right hand signals. If you look and find that yours already has a buffer, then great. Other than that all I can say is.....Ride till it hurts!!! P.S. You may think some here are, well, umm, less than normal, but don't let that scare you. So far the only thing that I have found that is contagious is the enormous grin you get from the ride.  | ||

Just my 2 cents but I agree Suspension setup and service manual.Extended warranty.....I work for a dealership and I bought it. Financed for 4 years/warrantied 4 years. But like I said just my 2 cents. |
