To coincide my with my new tune, catchcan and breather reroute, finally got around to gutting my airbox over the weekend.

Materials:
1 12 pack Bud Light
1 pack Marlboro lights
1 dremel
1 magic marker
torx bits (to remove airbox cover)

I decided I'd keep the stock tabs to keep things easy. So used a magic marker to map out everything I would be cutting, basically everything but the lid and legs/tabs. Its not pretty, but I haven't gotten around to smoothing out the edges yet. Here's some pics:

Wow, that's a lot of material gone, do you feel like the cover has enough support to keep the filter sealed?

It seems like it, I left the top lid intact. If not, can I seal it with something?

@Spiderman LOL Didn't notice that!!}

Wavex...dunno. I read almost all positive reviews about open airbox so I went with it.

Before I bought an open airbox I just took varing size circle drill bits and went to town. Did some designs in it. Looked good and took 5 minturs - no rough edges.

What's left of the cover might be enough since it may not have to provide the force for sealing. As long as it still maintains a close fit to the filter, engine vacuum pressure should be able to pull the cover down and complete the seal.

Hard to say what "close fit" means though. Sometimes the vacuum is strong enough to pull it down through a large gap, other times it refuses to seal a tiny sliver.

B00: Do you guys do this for the sound? performance? What's the point?

If the bike is better without an airbox, why do they put one on there to begin with? Noise restrictions?

With it being that "open" you could have just cut out the top portion, drilled a hole in the center and used a piece of all thread to keep it down. Someone did that and it looked great. Search it...I'm too lazy...lol

Thanks for the comments. Once the tabs are locked on, seems like dayum good fit. I will search other mods tho...airboxes are cheap.

Doz, the airbox covers going back on lol.

Wavex- did it for performance. My buddys 12R had it done and it made quite a difference in top end and responsiveness. The extra noise is good too...

Combined with Jardine, catch can, breather reroute and custom map I got it should be rockin.

Firebolt32, found the thread!! Holy heck that would've been easier. Hope I got enough of the lid to salvage this.

Swift kick of honesty there!

I think if you have enough of it left that it will do exactly what you want!
