I hate to say this, but I am soured on Buell.I have had my 9S for six months and have more than a few trips for service.Latest trip has me possibly without a bike for a week or so with a bad transmission. It is becoming a headache, hopefully this will be the last problem for awhile |

Dont loose faith Lonnie.Eric Buell shared with us last year at homecoming, that Buell Motorcycles are at the top of reliability, from a study done every year by an independent group thats looks at all motorcycle makes.Your bike is a GREAT and RELIABLE machine, when it gets fixed and the dust settles down, enjoy it. |

Pup - document everything and contact Buell customer service, not only the dealer. Who is the dealer? |

Lonnie: Quite unusual. Has the dealer satisfactorily resolved the problems? If not, let me know. Court |

Court,my dealer has been very good so far,all issues have been resolved quickly.I was just a little frustrated with the tech that checked my bike out yesterday. At first he acted like he couldn't hear the noise, then when he had the service advisor tell him he could hear it and to take it in a check it out he said"I don't want to tear down a Buell today".Later in the day as i was hanging out for some news he said"I am not cracking the cases on a Saturday".i have a feeling if it was a Harley it would have been no trouble.I also feel if you are working on a Saturday what is the difference on what you are doing.I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I will let you know Court if I have a problem |

Sorry, I'd be PO'd too. That gents is shitty service. I would never get that from Jims. And they don't even carry Buell anymore! Speak to the GM! Sounds like this dealer soiled Buells name for you. If you have another in your area... Try them. edited by charlieboy6649 on April 11, 2004 |

Yes, find another dealer immediately and don't ever return to that one. There is a 0% chance that your current, Buell-unfriendly HD Boutique and Chrome Emporium will become Buell-friendly, EVER! No matter what pressure is brought to bear upon them from anyone. You are 100% correct that if you rode a Harley, you would be wiping their greasy lip prints off your posterior and your bike would have been fixed on Saturday. Mike. |

Some of you are making assumptions. This dealer does first come first serve on Saturdays. It is mostly light service work and such. The day in question was also the day of the dealer's 33 year anniversary party. I don't think they would opened up a trans on a big twin either. |

Just sounds to me like the tech/mechanic was not in a Buell frame of mind that(those) day(s). General rule of thumb: avoid having people work on your stuff that don't want to work on your stuff, if at all possible. See if they'll schedule your bike work with someone who does care. |

Geesh. Tranny work in a 9s would require splitting the cases... I don't know about a professional dealer, but that does not sound like a saturday afternoon type deal to me. Sounds more like a "monday at noon through thursday evening" type of deal. While I completely understand wanting timely work on a bike that is under warranty, it also makes sense that the bikes that have already been dropped off at the shop with pre-existing appointments be taken care of first. If I had a 9, and had some scary tranny noise and my dealer said they will split the cases and take care of it, and could do it in less then two weeks, I would be annoyed but happy they are going to take care of me. Thats gonna take a boatload of their time and resources... But a new bike and warm day and a messed up tranny is going to be frustrating no matter how it is handled... (IMHO). |

I understand there were things going on,as I also said they have been very good the other times I have taken it there so I will continue taking it there. That being said,I believe the tech in question just does not like Buells.Another thing would you consider putting new pipes on a bike and dyno'ing it light work.i know that a bike had that and it was no problem.Like I said I am happy with the dealer, just a little put off this time |

And yes putting new pipes on is light work. I can replace the pipes on my dyna in less than 5 minutes. 4 bolts & 1 clamp & they are off. |

wasn't sure Dyna, but i guess it is light work.I'm sure you know how I feel though Dyna.Just seems other ppl i know with other brands and with other Buells don't seem to have as much trouble with their bikes.Maybe this will be the last of the problems. |

See if they'll give you a loaner. Would you mind listing out the problems? I second Roc, though - mine's fricking bulletproof. Hell, so's the Blast, for that matter. Rocker box leak and a blown speedo sensor are nothing to cry over. I enjoy gloating whenever my friend mentions that he has to check and shim his valves...hehe... |

Hey Lonnie, Don't let that service tech get to you. You should however let the service department manager know what was said (not so much who said it, yet) and that those statements were really troubling to you. Any good manager knows that public relations is an important part of their job. Knowing how you feel may help in a quicker resolution to the problem. If it doesn't by all means let the general manager know and then let Buell customer service know (don't forget Court, they say he has has black magic to make things happen). You must also understand their position in terms of timing. Saturday is a short day for shops around here. If its the same where you are, you should tell the service mngr. they need to be up front with the customer. They should let them know if its to big a job for the day. |

In response to the posts since my last: I'm not saying they should have fixed the bike that day, but no one deserves to be treated like that. The customer comes first always if you'd like their $$$. |

Hmmm, maybe they are hoping it wont blow until the warranty is up? Only a few months to go. Had a similar deal years back with a chrysler product. 36,000 mile warranty & the tranny starts acting up right around the time it was due to expire. Took it into the dealer & explained the problem & he told me it was normal & not to worry..go on & take the car home. I refused because by the time I would have gotten home I would have been over 36,000 miles & then I know it would have been tuff luck buddy. Left the car there & insisted that they look at it. Tech opens the tranny up & finds the spider gear or some crap is screwed big time. That repair cost Chrysler $1200. |

Hey Pup, What kind of noises are you hearing. I am 12 days new to buell and my xb, I hear chatters and low pitched chirps, is this normal. To everyone else, Can I trust that my dealer will inform me of problems with my bike during the 1000mile checkup. Do most of these techs follow SOP's and make the proper checks? Or do they just change the oil and put check marks next to everything they're supposed be looking at, lubing, adjusting, etc...? |

I was amazed at how noisy the brand spanking new (like 10 miles on the odo when I got on it) XB12S was that I rode the other day. I thought my XB9R had a lot of valvetrain chatter... ...they are by nature noisy bikes, but if you hear something 'new', by all means TRACK IT DOWN! |

yes they are noisy, but when people in the car next to you with windows up and air on looks over at you like your bike is going to blow up.Thats not normal.Everyone that I work with heard the new "normal noise" so I would say it is not normal. |

After being ridiculed that I didn't know what I was talking about when I told a bunch of folks - including 2 dealerships - that my first Blast was noisy, I remember pulling into Neptune's one evening (after the first of many warrantied engine break-ins) and some cat on a dresser said, "Hey, man, that bike really sounds like it's not doing well." No effing shite. ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY document the dates / mileage that you took the bike in. Have the dealer document it in the system. If Buell CS can see it, call them and make sure it was documented. If they're right and it's nothing, no biggie. If you're right then at least it shows the onus is on the dealership for refusing to work on the bike when it had the problem during the warranty period. -Saro |
