Loaned my 05 XB12s to an the son of a woman my wife works with. He just got back from Afghanistan and will only be here for a short time and he needed a bike to take the motorcycle test with, which he passed. Then he backed over it with his Dodge diesel. It's off to Bumpus.

That does suck! I don't mind being nice but I don't let anyone drive any of my toys anymore. I had a guy about 10 years ago drive my Grand AM in DC while on a job. Dude totaled it!

Just talked to him. He said when it went over it fell onto a jack stand and ruptured the tank.

He backed over it with "YOUR dodge diesel truck". Sounds like sad news all around.

If the "tank" is ruptured then it appears your bike is totaled. Is he insured?

I found out the hard way as well.
Back when I was much younger, a friend let me borrow his bike.
Being stupid I let someone else ride it up the street.
He rode up the street, turned, rode back towards me, and stuck the front brake, tucking the front and laying it down.
All cosmetic damage to the bike, but a little more damage was done to our friendship.
We got over it after I fixed his bike.
Lesson learned though.
Ever since I decline most all rides on street bikes that aren't mine.
I'm even nervous doing demo rides.

I haven't been burned yet, so I gladly toss the keys to those I know I can trust. My 1125CR is like a doorknob, everyone gets a turn!

That sucks. Hopefully he's fully covered or man's up and buys you another one. I have a saying: "Don't ask to ride my bike and I won't ask to ride your wife."

I let my Dad drive my 89 5.0 right after I bought it because I picked it up in Michigan and was still stationed in Florida. I told him he could move it around the driveway or anything he needed to do with it but asked him not to take it on the road because it was only insured for storage. When I came back the wheel wells were full of rubber and the tires were bald. I was only upset because I had only driven it 3 times before.
he got me new tires in the end but he doesn't use my toys without me present anymore.
And even then he gets a little out of hand, I left my keys in my bike when I stopped by his house last summer (I always leave the keys behind at his house because its in the sticks) and I caught him doing a burn out in the driveway with it... the man has issues LOL

Just got back from Bumpus in Murfreesboro and they said the frame will be $1,300. It has a small hole just above the weld at the bottom of the tank. All the gas ran out. The new select seat is ripped. I was looking forward to riding this week. : (

I let a friend take my brand-new 2003 Ducati 749S "around the block".

Turns out he rode it down to the car wash, went through the parking lot, and hit the front brake hard on the wet pavement. Dumped it, causing $1800 worth of damage.

He paid to fix it, but I just don't let anybody ride my bikes after that.

Sorry to hear about your bike though.

I was 16 working at a gas station with a guy that was a bit of a bully. He talked me into letting him "ride my bike around the block". He was gone over a half hour. Comes screaming up to me on my bike locks the front wheel on some loose gravel and drops it in front of me. He walked off and didn't pay for a thing. I never let anyone ever bully me again after that. It was the best thing anyone did for me that year.
