I'm a semi-pro cyclist, so I go to a lot of races each summer. Unfortunately, that means I lose time that I would otherwise spend enjoying my motorcycle. Well, this winter I decided to remedy that, so I built a bike rack for my Ulysses took it for it's first 77 mile test run yesterday. Works great. The bike is super solid on the rack and I unexpectedly got a lot of thumbs-up from other motorists. It's mostly steel and I had it up around 75mph for 20+ miles at a time without even a minor hiccup. Check it out:

Nice wheelie bar you have there! Great idea. But around these parts, the local police would make me do something different because the license plate is obstructed. |

Great idea....can you rig something up for golf clubs???!!! Also, is the taillight blocked by the bike because that could be dangerous. |

I think the tailight and license plate are only blocked when the bike is mounted.
It seems like license plates are blocked by those hitchgate bike racks on SUVs, so it seems about the same thing. http://www.amazon.com/Thule-958-Parkway-2-Bike-Receiver/dp/B000CQ47H4 I suppose I'll have that conversation with the local law enforcement if I ever get pulled over. |

Legally on a car you would have to relocate the license plate if something is obstructing its view. |

I might have made the rack so that the rear wheel was on the ground. Your plate would still be blocked, but you wouldn't be carrying the weight (all 20 pounds or less) off the back of the Uly. You could also get a little Goldwing trailer and mount the bicycle on top of that, would probably have to pay trailer registration though. |

Good idea. I'd love to do something like that, but finding someplace to put a 12'X12' EZ-UP, a 30# trainer, pump, clothes, pit wheels, nutrition and hydration stuff on the XB is going to be difficult. If I have to get someone to take those items, they might as well take the bike also. That's the way it usually happens in my case when I motoref for a weekend.
