Fullpower, Hootowl, Iamike,

Thank you all for your input. I knew that I was probably missing something on the service as far a fluids but the turn signal short had me distracted. I still think $8.25/Qt. synthetic is a rip. I use synthetic in my suburban (@ 230,000 miles I might add) and I can get a case for less than I payed for the 4 QTs. Live and learn. Speaking of learning read on.

As for the signal short (right-hand side only) I must tell everyone what I found last night. After checking the wires at the posts, wires from the turn signal switch, flasher wires, and some I Know I forgot about checking here is what I believe to be the problem.

The wiring harness runs just beside the battery under the seat. At the side of the battery is a metal clip that is used to hold the battery in place. It looks like the clip has rubbed through the tape and wire insulation. I however could not check to be certain after moving the harness away from the clip because I was out of fuses!!

So everybody out there on an '03 XB9S Low and other XB's check your harness.

Looks like you found the problem. Good job. HD is pretty damn proud of that Syn3 aren't they? I use redline or mobil. Redline is damn good oil, and it's cheaper than the HD stuff.

Interesting note...

Someone once said here that synthetic oil is just specially selected chains from regular oil. I wasn't sure at the time so I didn't say anything, but the base stock of synthetic oil can be made from just about anything. My company makes PAO out of natural gas. Synthetic oil is just that. Completely man made in a process that involves cracking molecules and welding them back together just the way we want them. Synthetic oil does not necessarily come from oil.
