wouldn't it be easier to go from a R to a S because of where all the electronics are stored? Yes I think I have heard of people haveing trouble with the bank angle sensor after a swap? Yep, one must make sure and position it so the bike doesn't thinks it's on it's side. No biggie. The hardest thing is the placement of the fuse box and ECM. But still with that being said, it took Mark and I about an hour to do both bikes. |

I'm not sure what all you'll be able to re-use. The lock, yes, but you'll need the cable, so it'll unlock the rear seat. |

I can add some input to this thread.... I have an '04 Buell that started out life as a Lightning and ended up as a full on CCS racer campaigned by Williams H-D in Trenton, NJ. It was the #21 bike riden by Randy Rega. First half of the VIN is 4MZSX14J.....etc. It has the racing sub-frame, full Sharkskin bodywork w/ tail section and more. So get the wrenches out and have at it!! If the readers are curious enough I can drag it out of the corner, pull some plastic and take some pics. |

As far as linking the Ss tail section to the Firebolt frame, what would I expect to encounter? Any fabricating? I'd like to just swap, but want to make sure I'm not stuck waiting on custom parts because it's my only ride. Would the tail section stick out beyond the rear wheel? |

It's a direct connect. Putting an S tail on an R is the easiest of the two. R with S tail easy S with R tail, a little bit tricky. The only thing I can think of that may get tricky for you is the rear brake, and how/where it mounts. |

The standard "S" change, I've heard is pretty easy, but Fatboy grim and I are discussing a trade. He has the long, which I like, but not sure the difference of those vs a standard "S". |

Like stated in the first reply, nothing will bolt up, you will need to fabricate adapters when switching between the 3 gallon and 4.4 gallon frames. |
