Bike is currently in the shop getting a Dunlop D407 200/55-17 mounted.
Anyone ever do this? I've done 190's on my XB9R race bike.
Will post up pics(possibly) and report any problems that may arise.

The tire is on and there are NO issues with clearance. I had removed my belt guards and rear hugger prior to mounting the tire. This was done purely for the visual aspects.
Went for a brief (175 mi) ride and there are still NO issues that I can tell.
I am still running my Sync front with the Dunlop rear.
Haven't noticed any issues other than the bike sitting higher and a slight change in RPM at freeway speeds.
Will post up pics ASAP.

How much clearance against the swingarm?

Any signs that the tire is hitting the swingarm at speed? With the stock rim that 200 tire is REALLY pinched (tall)

Each to their own - but know this, your turn in with a 200 is going to be slow as hell. I'll keep the 180.

There is NO clearance issues with the swingarm. I managed over 100 mph a few times on my ride. NO rubbing due to expansion of the tire.

The belt is a little less than 1/4 of an inch away from the tire.

It handles just fine thank-you.

Dunlop suggests mounting on a 6 inch rim. The 5.5 inch rim seems to work ok.
Not as pinched as even I thought it would be.

I need to get pics downloaded.

Sure it is a little heavier on turn in, but is no way "as slow as hell".

Besides this is my XB12Ss daily commuter/street bike. Not my XB9R trackday/racebike.

Although I do have a 190/50-17 on my racer.

You need to remember, the SS/STT/Uly have a different swingarm with more clearance than R and S models.

Would it be possible for you to try throwing it on your track bike to check the clearance?

I know that this 200/55-17 will NOT work on my 2003 XB9R.
It only works on my 2006 XB12Ss due to the swingarm being longer.

Why does every one want to put the over sized tires on there bikes? I think it looks ugly for one and two it does not help with handling at all in fact it does the oposite.

Not everyone does. Like you and me for example. But I applaud him for doing what HE likes on HIS bike.

Can't wait to see the pics!

So to sum it up:

Pros:
- It looks good to some ppl

Cons:
- heavier unsprung weight
- worse handling characteristics
- more expensive
- Ugly for some ppl

+1 to sticking to with a 180......

I ran a 190/55 at Daytona for several reasons (keep in mind it is belt drive and stock shock);

1) Raise the rear of the bike. The stock shock is not adjustable in this manner, thus the taller tire.

2) Pick up a few extra MPH. The long straights and long banking means more time at or near max speed. The larger tire provides for a few more MPH.

Outside of that, I'd stick with a 180.

But the neat thing about motorcycles is you can customize them as you wish! SO if a 200 floats your boat, you are in like flynn!!
