04 XB12R w/ 13K on the odo. Bike is in great shape. Not sure if I'd be better off selling it complete or parting it out. Ideas / Suggestions? Thanks. |

6 one way 1/2 dozen the other. Brand new Buell parts from the dealer are really not that expensive. Your best bet is the compile a list of parts, motor, wheels, plastics, etc. call a dealer and see what the going rate for new is. Now subtract 10% to 25% for the value of used and see what the numbers look like. |

fyi I'd be happy pulling 3000 for the bike, which I think is fairly modest. Looking to sell to purchase a 1125CR. Heres the math I did in my head: fairings 400 frame 300 swingarm 100 forks 250 headlight 100 jardine 200 engine/tranny 1500 subframe 100 rims 200 speedo 100 triple 50 controls, rearsets, etc 300 are my estimates appropriate? Any comments would be appreciated.

I think you can get more that 3 grand for the bike put together instead of ripping it apart but if you do decide to rip it apart i might be interested in the body work |

The riding season is coming put it up for sale for a reasonable time. It is easier to get rid of 1 big piece than a bunch of little ones. |

that black body work would definitely bring a good price. ive seen several post on here of people lookig for black XBR goodies. i'd try selling it as is before i started parting it out. if you part it out, you'll probly wind up with a lot of misc parts and hardware. |

If it runs, wait another month or so for the snow to clear and you should have few problems selling the complete bike for $3000. |

Don,t rip that nice bike apart! Post it in one piece in the Buell motorcycle classifieds. Or contact Kfry in the wanted section! |

If I had an extra $3000 and the title was clear, I'd make an offer. Don't have the money and my 9R is probably fine for now. Throw it on ebay and see what happens. |

Title is clear. Never dropped and always well cared for. Only selling to buy an 1125CR, or maybe a Uly. |

3K is a steal for an 04! I don't think you will have any problems selling it. |

Will (Black_sunshine) had an extra clean 03 XB9S with a spun crank bearing. He was asking $2000, but got no interest what so ever. He decided to part it out, and got over $5000. He said it was a major pain in the ass, but well worth it due to the extra $3000 he got. YMMV Just an FYI |

I had a 2004 XB12R I picked up in pieces. It was "somewhat" complete. I was originally going to rebuild it. I bought a bunch of parts from a guy building a chopper. Overall I had about $1400 into the bike and I was still missing some major components (plastics, heads needed valves) and some odds and ends. I decided to part it. I cleared $4500 when all was said and done. That is accounting for ebay and paypal fees as well as shipping. You would PROBABLY make more parting it out, but it would be a LOT more work. Whole bike values have dropped, but parts values have risen. Honestly, if you were close I would be offering you $2500 right now so I could track it. ac |

I appreciate the advice. I'll still give it to the end of February and will start to part if not sold by then. I hate to have to do that. Its not the work involved, its just a shame ripping apart a great bike. |

In that case, why not wait until March/April when riding season kicks in and people really start getting tax refunds? $3k is a low enough number I would think you could get it. ac |

I agree if it runs and rides sell it whole. broken and not road worthy is one thing but that is a great looking bike and it would be a shame to pull it apart. tax returns and warm weather will help you sell it if you are willing to wait. (granted that will also be motivating you to get that 1125 as well and stealing your patience away) |

i agree with everyone else here. yes you would probably get more but it would be a shame. with that said it looks like you have a xb9 cam cover? do you have a xb9 primary as well? if you do part it out i may be interested in the swingarm and header. |

Parting out a perfectly functioning Buell is wrong. |

Not only is it wrong, it should be illegal too. Someone in Wisconsin is parting a perfectly good M2 too. When you part out your bike, you make everyone else's bike worth more. |

I certainly dont mind my bike being worth more. There are worse things in the world. Not only does it make our bikes worth more but it puts more parts on the market and drives down the prices of the parts, so its a win win for buell owners. If too many people part out there buells the price of parts will drop so low that it would be worth more to sell the bike as a whole unit. Supply and demand is what its called. Just my thoughts. Once they stop producing parts we are going to be thanking people for parting out so us true buell lovers can keep on riding. |

I dont mind my buell being worth more money. Is there anyone else here worried about their bike being worth too much money? Once they stop making parts for buell we will be thanking people for parting out so us true buell lovers can keep on riding. If tomanny people part out there buells there will be a flood of parts and prices will drop so low that it will be worth more to sell a complete running bike. I think its called supply and demand, or something like that. |

Yeahbut, your motorcycle is nicer than mine! And mine is a wonderful machine; better yet, it's RED! What will your choice say about MY moto-values?

There is nothing wrong with parting the bike. The bike is practically worthless whole as no one will give him $3k. The bike is worth $4500 EASY in parts. Seems like the only reasonable way to go. If someone feels so strongly that it is wrong, I am sure he would gladly save the headaches and just sell them the bike whole. ac |

I think you could get atleast $3500 for the bike whole. Just use craigslist and maybe ebay. Just list it and be patient for a few weeks and it should sell. I am also in NC and have seen lesser buells going for 3500-4000. Although I would love to have that front fairing and wheels for my 9s. |

That's the funny part. He posts here saying, "What do you think? Part it or not?" And five minutes later he's parting it in the classifieds. He didn't want anyone's opinion. And he could have gotten $3,000 or $3,500 for it if he had tried. Or waited two or three weeks. Spring is 10 minutes away and plenty of people are jonesing to ride. Bike sales are going to pick up in the next four weeks. |

selling a bike in winter is never good unless you live in Florida, Texas, or southern California. Even then people aren't really doing much in the way of buying until after tax time. |

It is possible that by parting one bike he could be enabling 5 or more other broke down bikes to get back on the road. No one is going to buy parts for no reason. I vote freedom of choice in this case. Who gives a what he does and when he does it. Its his bike. |
