It is spring, and I am looking to replace my X1 with a new Buell, I know the rumors are out about a XB touring model, does anyone know anything more? I want to get an XB12, but I also want to be able to tour on it as well. I was given a great out the door price on a BMW R 1100 SA, $1000 more than the XB12S, it has me thinking. I really like my Buell regardless of its quirks, Any thoughts? Nick | ||

You arent going to see a touring Buell. The S3 never sold very well & Buell isnt going down that road again. | ||

Too bad, I liked the S3. I was going to buy a used one until the dealer jerked me around. I ended up getting a new XB12R. I think the market is there. Maybe the "reliability" rumors scared people away. I would be interested if they made one. JR | ||

Nxtr: this may sound funny, but i bought my XB12s for touring. my sportster runs great, but is just cranked up too hard to be a long distance ride. 4-5/16 stroke, 205 PSI cranking pressure, grade 8 motormounts, and a 3.2 gallon tank. by comparison, the rubber mounted, short stroke, low compression XB12, with the 3.7 gallon tank is a smooth quiet cushy ride, with extended fuel range. i lashed some cheep tourmaster nylon bags across the seat, hid a tire repair kit behind the flyscreen, and an 8 inch adjustable wrench under the seat, i plan to carry a one gallon gas can, and i should be ready to go the distance......... when the snow melts. i know the d207 tires will turn to dust quickly, so i have a set of metzeler Z6 ready to go. also have a set of PIAA driving lights to lash on probably mount them to the upper forks. regards, dean | ||

I tour on my XB9R. 17.5k in 22 months. Several 300+ days strung back to back. I'm always glad I've got the XB when I get to the twisty stuff. Get the lower 9s footpegs and you're good to go. Also get the tankbag; it swallows more than I expected. It alos gives you something to lean into on long straight highway blasts. | ||

I have the saddle bags on mine and get loads of complements. My XB9 firebolt is a commuter, 80 - 150 miles daily. 15,000 since July and running strong. My biggest problem is keeping tires on it, and keeping up with the services, they come up so damn quick! | ||

What kind of bags do you guys use on your XB9R's? I'm getting one when I get back in a few weeks, (Woohoo!) along with a Blast to learn on for the first 1500 miles or three months. My wife is selling her car, so it looks like she will drive my truck and the bike will be my primary ride for a few months at least, if not longer. Are there any bags that fit a Blast and an XB9R? I usually carry a laptop and maybe a binder, or other small things every day to work. I also carry a large digital or film SLR camera often. Also, with a tank bag, does it restrict your ability to see the instruments? It seems like it would, especially if it's filled with stuff. Thanks for any suggestions. Sean | ||

We have the buell saddlebags on my wife's blast. They fit nice and hold a good amount of stuff. | ||

seanp: got a Buell tank bag on the XB. it easily fits nikon with 70-300mm zoom, in toploader bag. also getting ready to try out cheep tourmaster saddlebags (cortech- $129) will make road trip 01 may, report back on bags after.. .. dean | ||

The Ventura system is the way to go for carrying gear and/or touring on an XB. It is well designed, you can carry a lot of stuff. We've got 'em at American Sport Bike, we move a lot of Ventura racks for all Buells. I've got a rack on my personal S3 and can carry a HOUSE on the back with 2 45 liter bags. Sparky, do you have a photo of the Stealth bags on your XB9R? We sell those at American Sport Bike too, and I tried to fit them on the shop XB9S and the turn signals and seat shape didn't seem to agree with them. The turn signals are further back on a firebolt, I think. That might be the difference. Al | ||

The Buell saddle bags look better than any of the ones shown here. I think the ventura one is really big and ugly. But if I were crossing the country, I'd consider it. | ||

Here's the  Stealth bag setup on a Firebolt. Note the bag rests on part of the heel guard to keep it out of the tire sweep. It might be better to raise the bags higher and not depend on the guard for positioning the bags. I put a strip of clear vinyl on the body where the bags rub against the plastic. It's invisible and works great. Fitting Stealths on a XB9S, I think Buell has a turn signal relocator bracket that moves the TS back about 3 inches or so. I'm not sure if it is for the XBs, but I've seen them, maybe on a Cyclone. Prolly part of the bag install kit. Also, the Ventura rack mounts fit under the plastic bodywork and inwards from where the bags are. No interference with the rack/pack & bags. Thanks, Sparky edited by sparky on April 01, 2004 |
