Ok as many of you have figured out from my recent slue of questions as of late I was trying to get a 03 xb9r well. I just won the one on ebay just now so my wife will be going up to north Louisiana to pick it up this weekend. I am just so excited about it i had to show it off to every one so here it is. it only sucks that I still have 2 1/2 months until I will be home to ride the thing. also I now have some more questions. Ok I know I need to to upgrade the belt system if it has not already been done. I need to make sure it has the orange wheel bearings. But what else do I need to change or up grade on this thing if not already done so? |

First thing I would do would be to put frame pucks on it. |

well that is something I plan to do to it along with some dark horse sliders, but I was talking about stuff mechanical that needs to be up graded because I remember the 03s having stuff that needed changing I just cannot remember what all it was aside from the wheel bearings and the belt system |

nice!, i've got the excat same bike! (03 9R) and mines blue as well! except i dont have the checker decals or anything, only think i've done to mine is put on a blacked out wind screen, it looks good!, and i've got the race ECM and race pipe on it, mine didnt have pucks on it either when i got it, but i did buy some, and am waiting till it warms up more to put them on, i vote that you buy some pucks as well, seeing as the original owner of my bike let it fall over, and there is a dent on the left side of the tank were a puck should have been. but i'm going to bondo it up some before i put the pucks on so its even. and i'm buying a rim sriping kit right now on ebay, so i hope that will look good to! looks like you've got an aftermarket seat on yours!!! |

Yea it has the custom seat from Buell on it which I have heard is a big improvement over the stock seat. I am going to get black plastics to put on it instead of those blue ones as well as a few other things I am planning on switching out such as putting the newer swing arm, and possibly putting a lightning front end on it. Also I am going to put a spec ops pipe on it and some air box mods and stuff to that effect. As I said before as far as protection stuff I am going to put pucks on it along with some dark horse sliders for the axles |

I once passed up on a complete set of yellow Firebolt plastics for under $100! I had already spent too much and didn't have enough left to get them. Nice scoot! You will like the seat too. The stock seat tends to scrunch the boys a little too much. |

I wish I could find a black set for that kinda price. i think if i was to pay the $700 to buy them new after buying a second bike I would probably be sleeping outside with the bike and the plastics |

Replace all the break pads, the back ones may be original and probably don't grip the rotor now like mine. I'm afraid I don't understand the desire to make an S-R conversion, seems it would be more economical to just buy the S in the first place. I do understand the desire for the black plastics though. Not really sure what a newer swing arm will really get you. Upgrade to the larger size belt is a reasonable upgrade and something that I'll probably do to mine in the near future. |

it is not a complete s-r conversion just the front end. Alot of people here on badweb have bikes with this set up and it looks really sweet. The swing arm is mostly because I like the way the new one looks better that's all no real big issue as to why other than that. Some of these things are just wish list and will do only once I have the money to do it but some of the stuff I will defiantly do like the protection stuff, and the belt upgrade. |

If the belt is in good shape, no need to replace anything there. That's a $500 "upgrade" that really only needs to be done if you mis-handle your belt. Simply never twist the belt and you'll be good. |

"what larger cut-out?" Thought I was seeing-through body work @ keylock for passenger seat. Second look and I see it's a black decal. (Message edited by aptbldr on January 19, 2010) |

I doubt you will find a whole set on ebay in good shape, my advise would be to buy it piece by piece as you see parts in good shape as most of the body work you are going to find on ebay is going to be taken off of wrecked bikes there for there is usually going to be some parts that are not in hot shape. the other option IF and that is a big IF they still sell them at the dealerships order them but they are going to run you about 700 for the whole set at least according to the pdf accessories catalogue on the buell website. |

aww man, id jump at them if i could find them that price!!!!! The sucky part was that they were at a swap meet, so I couldn't gladly return anything to get them. The set even had the tail subframe. The vendor said "Just make me an offer!" I probably could have gotten them for way less than $100. Just one of those moments where you don't have the resources to create a lucky moment. The same swap meet will be in Chicago soon. I will be on the prowl! |

it is cut out but he thought the cut outs were bigger than they really are because there is some black decals on there to give it the effect that they are bigger. |

Actually, the very latest wheel bearings have black seals. They went black (2003), orange (2004- early 2009), and back to black (late 2009-2010). The original black seal bearings were made by FAG (really!); the current ones are made by KBC. More info on wheel bearings in this post on the new owner FAQ thread in the BB&D forum: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=1505281#POST1505281 |

congrats on your new bike. you coud put the newest style inner air box on it and get the 06 up outer (black since you want black) airbox cover since it wil have the scoop behind the gas cap as the stock 03-05s didnt have the scoop rather relyed off the left side scoop and in 06 they filled the hole in the frame for the eft side scoop. andymnelson said not to change the belt bu i vote to change it. the 03 belts most of the time fai as you know and i think the 03 belt gaurd set up isnt as attracive as the newer styles IMO. thank you for your service. p.s. i believe the 03 xb9r's had shorter mirror stalks making it harder to see out of, they upgraded them in 04 and i think buell.com shows a "kit" to put the newer style on. i also think the passenger footpeg brackets were 1" longer in 04 which you may want to consider for your wifes comfort. http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/product.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=4&CategoryID=6&ProductID=1993 (Message edited by buellblastrider on January 19, 2010) |

The FIRST performance mod should be UNSCREWING the "ground feeler" pegs from the bottom of the foot pegs. Trust me, you do NOT want them scraping the ground in turns - it'll STARTLE you!! Next - look up the Shawn Higbee tables for suspension settings and suspension tuning. The tables were written based on that year bike. SWEET! |
