That's a truly scary ride even in the best of conditions. In August, the SW Regional Buell Rally went from Pagosa Springs to Gateway thru Durango. We went up west of there (although two guys went up that way) and then those of us from NM returned via the Million Dollar Highway. It was August, it was dry (at that moment, it had rained before and after we traversed it), and it was moving at a creeping pace.

There's this magic white line that replaces the guard rail. Apparently, that magic while line will not allow you to fall to your death some 3000 feet below. Of course, we didn't test it. If I wasn't so busy trying not to fall to my doom, I might have enjoyed the scenic vistas.

I'm totally down for doing it again. When do you want to go? I was on my Firebolt last time, but it would also be fun on the Uly XT I got last month. There are a million really great greasy spoons in that part of Colorado, too.

Yeah we've been on 550 about 3 times. Last time my son, a 20 year old newbe rider, went with us and I think he coulda messed his pants, he was so scared. His concern was that the white line WAS the edge of the road

it is an absolutely gorgeous ride. I'm sure we'll be there again this summer (if it ever warms up : ))

Brad, you will love it. It was me and Frank who did it back in August. I want to do it again, in both directions!

This brought back lots of fun memories. We actually did a 40 minute video of our trip from Ouray to Silverton but we didn't have the proper set up and there is too much vibration to show it. So here are a couple of pic's from our trip.

Now to take the CR's up there, WOW, can't wait. Will be taking the toy hauler this summer and camping in Ridgeway.

Julie, what bike is your son riding? Looks like an SV-650. I bought my 17 year old son a 2005 SV650 last month. He's taking his class this week. We're hoping for some good weekend getaways up to Colorado this summer.

it would also be fun on the Uly XT

Yea I saw that show too..., but wouldn't it be scarier because you'd be up higher and can view more ... over the edge??? Yikes!!
What do they call those things they put on race horses?......

Blinders

The curves look wild/fun to ride on that road but that scary cliff edge section..... it scares me just thinking about it.

CJ. Yes it's an SV650s. He really likes it but the position on the S is not real comfy for him. I had an sv650 before my Buell and it was much more comfy than the S. We're trying to talk him into selling it and getting something different

blinders on this road would be good : ). Can't really be looking around. Great for a passenger with a camera. This summer we'll get a better video as we have a better mount now.

Definitely one of the nicest roads out there. I take a 3-4 day trip every year and fly out to Denver and just head out to wherever the road takes me.

The best day was out of Gunnison to 149 which was an insanely fantastic, fast paced empty road wich ran for about 100 miles into Durango. NO TRAFFIC! From there I took the million dollar highway (550). Ouray is fkn beautiful. One of the best days ever...

and yes, I beat the shit out of that bike (I generally rent from Denver). It was actually a real fun bike to ride and handled pretty well. I would def rent it again if I don't take my soon to be new buell out there this summer.

Don't fart around, bring your new Buell. We're doing the SW Regional Rally out of Red River NM this year, late August. It's going to be really nice. Lots of great mountain roads. You'll love it!

We'll probably be camping in Ridgeway mid-July for several days and riding several routes down that way. Can't wait. This is such a tease. Already have several rides in mind.

Ghostrider-

That sounds fun! I have a few plans this summer, so hopefully I can do them all... I just need to re-secure a lightning, since mine was stolen about a week prior to the close down of Buell.

We make a run to Ouray every year and ride the Million Dollar sometimes, as well on the way to or from New Mexico. Stay at the Western,in Ouray it's cheap and cool. You should hit HWY 114 down that way, it is an awesome and fast road with no traffic on it's loop into the mountains. You should also consider checking out Bishops Castle in the mountains down that way as it is a great ride and a good place to stop. Have Fun!!!

Nice pics, Mike. Those are beautiful.
We've been on that road, but unfortunately it was raining that day. So we need to get back there when the sun is shining. Plans are to do it again this summer.

We live in an absolutely beautiful state : )

J2Blue, it was a great ride last year. I went back and looked at the pics.

Looks like a lot of rides are planned for this summer as well. Pogue_mahone, where were you?

Lynn and I will ride 550 again this year but I do not know when. I like the way we did it for the Buell Rally last year. A night in Pagosa Springs and a night in Gateway. We are looking forward to the NM Buell Rally in Red River this year. The Enchanted Circle is a great ride.
