I know I've heard of it being done (Froggy?). Anyone else? I'm wondering what is involved. Is the subframe a direct bolt-in swap? From there it would seem relatively straight-forward. Pictures would be great.

Close, I used an SS, which has the same frame as the Uly. It can be done on a S, but there is more work involved as the subframe won't bolt right up like the SS.

I had a feeling. I'm also wondering how far the tail will protrude past the rear tire...

I hope I didn't skew it too much.

IIRC, the undertail will reportedly hit the rear wheel at full compression. I played around with an image of a City X with the Uly tail, sans undertail.

Interesting. I don't think it looks half bad. I'd be interested in hearing about the undertail interference, though. What part are you referring to?

IIRC, the engineers said it would create interference, and I believe Steve's Ulybolt has had some scraping in real world use, but not when he was testing it out by trying to fully compress the rear shock (I thought I read that somewhere).

If I can scrape up the dough for the parts, I might try to use diamond plate as an undertail, though using the factory one would be better.

I have done it on my SS, which has a shorter suspension than the STT Steve used, and am yet to bottom out. I am not a hefty fellow either, so its not like I can use the suspension either way.

Really? How different is the City X suspension from the SS? I thought it was a little longer than the S, maybe .1", but how about the SS?

edit:nm, looks like the 2010 XB9SX gives up .6" to the SS, so there might be an interference if I did a straight forward swap

Well the CityX has a totally different frame and swingarm than the SS, so I couldn't even say for sure. The front forks are the same.

Gonna spend quite a bit of money : )

Anyway, because it comes up a lot, here is my premade response on the conversion (for SS/STT at least)

quote:

I ended up buying a used tail section on Ebay off a wrecked bike, it
saved me a ton of cash. Anyway you would need the following just for
converting the tail section.

L0046.1AKYBQ TAILSECTION STRUCTURAL CTR,MAGNESIUM TON Retail
Price:$193.00
L0009.1AKYBQ TAILSECTION, RH, MAGNESIUM TONE Retail Price:$112.00
L0010.1AKYBQ TAILSECTION, LH, MAGNESIUM TONE Retail Price:$112.00
L0076.1AKA BATTERY PAN Retail Price:$41.65
M0075.1AK TRUNK PAN ASSY Retail Price:$34.95
Y0401.1AKC TAIL LIGHT Retail Price:$57.00
M0755.1AK BRACKET, LICENSE PLATE Retail Price:$23.80

You would still need a seat, depending on which one, thats either $110
or $200 more. You could get away with reusing the SS tail section
rails if you are willing to drill holes.

Optional, but recommended you can get the grab rails, triple tail, and
Uly foot pegs/mounts

N0526.1AKYBP FOOTREST SUPPORT,RIDER,LH,GRAPHITE GREY Retail Price:$159.00
N0527.1AKYBP FOOTREST SUPPORT,RIDER,RH,GRAPHITE GREY Retail
Price:$159.00
N1016.1AK TAIL RACK W/GRAPHIC Retail Price:$105.00
N0008.1AKBYBQ HANDLE, GRAB, PASS LH, MAGNESIUM TONE Retail
Price:$59.20
N0009.1AKFYBQ HANDLE GRAB, PASS RH, MAGNESIUM TONE Retail Price:$59.20
C0083.1AK COLLAR, TAIL RACK Retail Price:$5.20
N0018.1AK TAIL RACK DETENT Retail Price:$3.83
N1027.1AK HELMET LOCK W/KEYS Retail Price:$57.50
H0205.1AK MASTER CYLINDER, REAR Retail Price:$57.80
H1522.1AK BRAKE LINE ASSY, REAR Retail Price:$43.35
H0419.1AK BRACKET, REAR BRAKE LINE Retail Price:$6.60
N0006.1AK FOOTPEG KIT, RIDER, LEFT AND RIGHT Retail Price:$86.55
N0042.1AK FOOTPEG KIT, PASSENGER, LEFT AND RIGHT Retail Price:$92.65
N0320.1AK SHIFT LINKAGE ASSY Retail Price:$22.95
N0802.1AK BRACKET, SHIFTER Retail Price:$19.50

Thats the majority of it. There is a handful of fasteners and other
pieces you need, but I don't have the numbers handy. Also the wiring
is different, you will need to splice wires to get the tail light to
work, and get creative to mount the battery and fuses.

This is a silly question, but could one put a firebolt seat on a xb12scg? I'm diggin the solo seat thing the firebolt has goin on but I'm not about to go buy a firebolt cause the effing seat looks cool. I love my scg way too much to even think of trading her in.

Does anyone have the ass end of a firebolt they want to get rid of? Preferably a black one being as my lightnings all black. Plus, is it weird to wear an Icon jacket riding an american bike? I know Icon has a bunch of suzuki gixxer and hayabusa shit but I just feel weird wearing it, I love my Icon TiMax gloves which I wont stop wearing. They make me feel like batman, or one of the 4 horsemen.
