I agree with your statement. Like I said, I just posted an article for discussion. On a 45 deg V twin, what is the volumetric flow during operation? Is it always positive? Does it operate positive and negative. I must be mostly positive otherwise the can would not collect. So, if it mostly positive would the negative of the intake be beneficial?

American Sport bike references a power increase based on Dyno testing. Is it due to the removal of higher temperature air being introduced as previously stated?

Seems like a lot of HP increase for just a small amount of airflow.

I'd believe that anything above 1 HP is bull. It is such a small amount of "hot" air that it would not make a difference. And as far as the sludge, the same thing applies. Yeah, guys go do a 30 min run and pull their catch can out to reveal a dime sized plop of sludge. Well, distribute that through the nearly 100,000 revolutions that your engine just made. That small amount of sludge would burn up and go right through the system not effecting it in any way.

It's not just air, it contaminates that do not burn well, like oil and water and who knows what kind of petroleum vapors and maybe exhaust gasses that slipped past the rings. Removing all that crap could make the 1 or maybe 2 HP increase depending on the condition of the engine when it was tested. A really poor engine could make a bigger difference.

I heard the biggest benefit is the air temp...

But it would be easy to test if you had a dyno.

Do a control test with the stock breather setup.

Do a test with normal catch can/filter and then do a test with a catch can and in place of the filter put a clear line (just to be able to see and verify most of the contaminants are going into the can) that leads back into the system as if it were the stock setup, but with a catch can in the middle.

That way you are removing the contaminants but not the hot air.

FYI, when re-routed crankcase breather out of airbox, AFV was 94%.
After doing the breather mod, commuted (5 miles +/-) to work, at least three times last week.
And, as reported here: more usable engine below 3k rpm, but engine's running uneven between 3k & 4K rpm on steady-trailing throttle now.

Weekend finally arrives.
Bike's running uneven between 3k - 4k rpm.
Take a longer ride, 1.5 hours +/-, no stop-lights or traffic; fully warmed and ecm has time to re-calibrate.

Mighty Buell is self-healing!
After a little 'cruise time', it all comes together: bike's never run better.

Back in the garage, AFV is 99%.

Eager to start data-log tuning.

Breather re-route was most significant improvement I've made to bike as it came to me over a year ago now.
Well, except when I'd load-up fuel maps that would even not even idle.

I just want to see some poor non-Bueller stumble upon that video looking for catch can details. I wanna see their face as they try to figure out why the bike sounds like that! "Haven't you heard? Buells are jet powered! That's what they sound like idling! That's why Jay Leno has one, and they had to stop making them cause they were dangerous!"

lol yeah... "it's the bi-turbo cooling off" : D

my fan never comes on when I ride (I never bog the bike or ride in traffic for too long... splitting lanes in CA is not illegal), but the fan will go for 3-4min every time I turn the bike off.
