I'm in a pickle. With all the recent news I could get a new xb for 7-8000 out the door. I may be able to swing if I got rid of my x1 but I know that won't be quick. It's more than i'd like to spend since I just bought a house, but the deals are so tempting My friend finally heard back from his insurance and offered me his "totalled" xb for $2500. I witnessed the accident myself and it was a head on crash going 15-25 mph. It's a 2003 xb9r with a full race kit and a drummer. 9k miles and he bought the bike with less than 3k miles. Fork, front fairing, clip ons and ignition need to be replaced. Front tire needs to be replaced, front rim possibly too. That price include replacement forks he got (probably need rebuilt) and ignition. I plan on puttin on the 1125cr front and clubman handles. I figure about $3500 all said and done. I see lightly used xb12 going for 4 or 5k. I'm on the fence. The salvage title will kill resale value if I ever sell it. I know beside the accident it was upkeptwith no mainteneance headaches and a couple of goodies. I love the all black look of the newer models, but Im leaning more towards a 9 instead of a 12. |

We've been watching very clean used and not salvaged '03s sell for $3000-3500 this year. I wouldn't touch it. |

Wouldnt touch it for more than 1500 considering you can now get new clean XB12R's for 5k. |

In April I bought my '03 XB9S for $4000. Small dent on frame from garage drop and 8000 miles. At the time it was below book so I picked it up. As of things right now, I agree with Andy and Biggie, don't touch it for more than $1500-$2000 |

Not more than $1000 since you know the history. Are you certain that the frame is not tweaked? In NY it can take a very long time to be able to get that type of title back on the road. They say they need to search each state to make sure it is not stolen, then you need to take it to one of the oafish-al DMV inspection places for them to make sure it is once again road ready. I look at salvage machines as just a parts source now, if I was racing that might be different. |

Don't know how things work in your state, I know they vary. My s-i-l had her own car written off but she rebuilt it and ran it for years in her province. When she had to relocate here, the new registration saw the salvaged part and made her redo and confirm everything again. That cost her, again. |

Predict an optimistic re-build price and result; what's 'best case' savings for subject purchase's risks (STUDY steering-stem bearings)? Doesn't seem to me bike's worth its personal and financial investment & risk. |
