 I'm having a really crappy week, so my brain is tired enough that I want to call this a clutch cover, but I know it's not. In any case, I went to go out for a ride today, heard an odd sound from the right side of the bike, and saw this when I went to inspect. Now, this wasn't the source of the sound...but it seemed important to note anyway! Both rivets (?) are loose, but won't pull right out - but the cover can come away from the case about 1/8". Clearly the right rivet has elongated the right hole quite a bit. What could cause this? How to I replace it? And wtf is it actually called? (Message edited by BCool83 on October 11, 2009) | ||

I THINK its called the stator cover,Mine did the same thing within a week of purchase. I bought a CF replacement n drilled the rivets out. Hasn't happened since. | ||

i know it as the points cover. it's just a piece of sheet metal drill the rivits out and you can use the 2 screws under neath to secure it at a 45 tilt. or replace it with some bling-bling piece so you can hear it rattling while riding? your exhaust is too quiet! and you should be wearing earplugs anyways. even wind noise will damage your hearing. | ||

Mine is worse than yours. Going to drill out the rivets and tap the holes for screws, looks like maybe a #6 or #8 screw should do the job, think it is too big for a #4. | ||

So to drill the rivets out, I literally just drill through the middle? How big of a bit? Buelltroll - did you tap the case cover for screws for the new cover? Or how did you affix it? Which replacement did you get? Nill - No, as soon as I started the bike I heard a rattling or ticking. I shut it down, then looked - and found the loose cover. Once I started the bike again, the rattle/tick was way quieter, or non-existent. Was never on the road with it like this. Any chance the thing will fly off on its own if I go for a ride, before I get a new one? I need to talk to Glitch...I remember him having a bitchin cover I think... | ||

You need a drill bit about the same diameter as the body of the rivet, about the same size as the lighter ring in the center. | ||

Use a #21 drill then tap 10/32 and get a couple button head cap screws to replace the rivets. Just use care when drilling the rivets out, don't go to deep. Remove the inner timer cover after drilling the rivets (2 phillips head screws) and clean out any debris around the timing cup from drilling. | ||

Anyone sell a Buell points cover? Like something that says BUELL or with the Pegasus? | ||

Mine are loose enough that I'm going to use some end cutters to clip off the rivet head. I like the Drummer catch can kit, might have to get me one of those. |
