Well it finally happened a series of stupid mistakes led me to dropping my bike. I started my bike let it warm up while I put my helmet and gloves on. I started down the sloped driveway and heard scraping, I had forgot to pick up kickstand (Stupid mistake #1), I looked down to pick up kickstand while rolling down the driveway (Stupid mistake #2). I picked it up and realized I was about to roll into the grass (Stupid mistake #3). I turned left and then made the biggest mistake of all I hit the front brake (Stupid mistake #4,5,6). After that it was all over a split second later I am standing in the yard looking at my now horizontal bike. Damage report is right side rider peg snapped off, slight scuff on barend weight, and very light scuff on front brake lever. | ||

On the upside the peg should only cost you 15 bucks. Sorry to hear about the brain cramping by the way. However it could have been worse. | ||

Dumped my CR doing some offroading this weekend, gonna cost me a whole $50 to replace a scuffed pod and some time with a Sharpie on the clutch cover  Did ya take a photo? I forgot to take one of my first CR dump  | ||

No worries Roy. Tip-overs happen to everyone. My first one happened last year at a gas station.....with lots of people watching. A little hottie asked if I was okay. I said "yeah, I'm fine thanks." About 30 seconds later she asked me the same thing. In my cloud of hurt pride, I didn't realize the obvious sign that she was interested. I rode off without contact info like a complete dork.  Or maybe, just maybe, she was talking to the bike. I guess I'll never know.  | ||

Maybe you should drop your bike more often Bolt. I've realized with the rider pegs that they never fold up when they hit. I've snapped my fair share. Just put a new brake lever on yesterday due to dropping my bike. Grass isn't as soft as it seems! | ||

I dropped my bike at a rider course... not even on the range! I was done with my section and moving back into the line for the next session, tried to cut it to hard at 1-3 MPH back into the line and lost my footing... hands went white knuckled, strained to hold her up... touched the ground. I tried so hard to keep it from going over and when it defeated me I unstraddled and picked it up the right way and man, you talk about a red face. I was so ashamed of myself. The good part of the story... Keith's wonderful sliders kept ALL damage on them and nothing else on the bike. Not a scratch elsewhere. Thanks Keith! | ||

I thought the spring was on the pegs for them to fold in the event of a tip over, but I guess not. The barend weight took the hit and got scraped and saved the lever from looking like a horn. The lever did get a small scrape and if I had the shorty levers would not have even touched. I think I will invest in some shorty levers and as bad as it sounds I might buy a set of pegs, just to have in the event of another tip over. | ||

Just got home and upon further inspection there is a small scratch on the rear peg. Also I saw that the axle sliders did their job in protecting the bike. Thanks American Sport Bikes!! | ||

Don't beat yourself up, I have a friend. She is very cute. She rides a BMW thumper. (I am trying to win her over to Buell.) She tells a story of getting ready to take off on her bike when she decided to get rid of her chewing gum. Not wanting to be, as she said, "un-ladylike" and just spit it out, she stepped off of her bike to put it in the trash....forgot her kick stand was up....you guessed it...dropped her bike in a parking lot. I was riding a bicycle a while back and decided to stop. I couldn't get my shoe un-clipped (yes, I am a roadie). So I just did a slow motion fall onto my shoulder. A woman asked if I was ok (you know, laying on the ground like I was some kind of a super dummy in my shiny bike suit)....I said that of course I was, that that was the way I always got off my bike. Could have been worse. | ||

I just can't believe I made such a noobie mistake and grabbed the front brake with the handlebars turned like that. I know better then that! Oh well, the bike broke her cherry, I learned a lesson and didn't get hurt. | ||

Don't beat yourself up Roy. It happens, I try to always uncover the front brake and cover the rear brake anytime I am on gravel, or a soft surface. It happens man. | ||

Roy, the are both designed to fold and break. If enough weight was on the peg that it snapped, be glad it was just a $15 peg and not a $70(?) peg bracket. About the kickstand, it would of popped itself up on the first left you took | ||

I took off without warming my bike up, it didnt sound right so I stopped to give it a little time. I leaned over to put it on the stand....I had forgotten to put down the stand. I was laying half in the driveway with my spaghetti lunch squished all in my backpack on wet grass and cement staring into the starry morning sky wondering what the hell just happened. | ||

Most of us have pulled this a couple of times at least. The last time I did it I just slipped in wet grass while getting my bike out of a buddy's truck after a trip to the dragon, and I broke the footpeg, a piece of shift linkage, and the clutch lever has a lot of play now. No big deal. | ||

I was backing out of the garage one day and suddenly my bike was stuck. I looked back and saw a small spade shovel under the rear tire that the kids left out. No big deal, put the stand down and got off the bike. As I went to remove the shovel, the bike rolled forward (I couldn't set the stand all the way back because of the shovel) and the stand came up. I watched my bike fall over in slow motion trying to decide if I should try to save it or not...I went with "or not." Minor damage, most of it to my ego. | ||

I almost dropped mine in Monterey during the 08 GP. It was a very late & foggy night leaving Cannery Row. I tool off while the bike was still cold which is a very bad thing to do but my buddy just went and took off so I attempted to follow and the bike stalled. I put my foot down on crack sealer which is slippery when dry and very slippery when wet like it was this night. My foot slipped out and the bike almost went down on the left side. I caught it and held it but I didn't have the leverage to get it back up. So I was standing there holding the bike up as best I could for about 40 seconds when suddenly a couple guys on IL4s came up and gave me a helping hand up. It was an embarrassing way to meet a couple motorcycle enthusiasts (those who love bikes, doesn't matter the brand) but it definitely restored my faith in the goodness in people Now if you want to talk stupid.. Back in late 1985, I'm 15 & 1/2 years old on a Honda Nighthawk 450. I've been riding for two or three days now. I've got this stuff down. I come to a stop sign and as I come to a stop I suddenly drop to the left. Oooops! I forgot to put my feet down. I guess I didn't have all that stuff down like I thought I did.  Thankfully I have learned much since then. Enough to still be alive and well 24 years later | ||

Thanks all, this makes me feel so much better with everyone sharing their stories. My nearest Buell dealer is 138 miles away. Yes, its far but that's how much I wanted a Buell. So this dealer shipped out the peg and for 8 bucks and it was here the next day. I replaced the peg, got some black touch-up paint and you can't even tell something happened(Well, I can tell). I can't ever drop it for the 1st time again. No worries, lesson learned without getting hurt. | ||

I just tonight got pinned between mine and the floor of the shed. My dad pulled the ass end of my bike over to fit his in next to it. I didn't notice that when he did this it made the side stand lean back just enough to when I grabbed the handle bar the damn bike started falling. I couldn't grab it quick enough so I purposely threw myself under it...I proceded to walk across the street to his house to call him a dip shit! | ||

First date with my now girlfriend, we went out for a beer at this local bike bar. It wasn't very busy and my bike was a fresh week old (to me at least) and she rode as well. We park our bikes and head in for a few beers and laughs. When we come back out, I start the bike form the right hand side and then as I 'm putting my helmet on and walking over to mount, the bike just falls over! Just like that! I didn't move it or touch save for the starting and it feel in slow motion. Talk about embarrassed! Luckily she could see past my noob mistake and about three weeks later she totals hers. I've dropped many a bike many a times before this one, but I'm still to this day unsure why it even fell over to begin with! | ||

Long time ago, I had a honda cb550 w/open pipes, 4" extended fork, cafe bars, 16" rear wheel, chrome swingarm fog lights...lol. I had just pulled up to a stop sign right outside my dealer it was a "T" intersection (I was to go left or right) All clear, I turn left but gave too much throttle and the ass end swung out on some stones in the road,.. ended up with both feet on left side, standing but I didnt let go of the handlebars and it rev'ed up to like 9k in 1st gear and I was spinning and running around in a circle chasing it till I finally hit the freakin kill switch. I don't know how long it took but when I first made the left there was no traffic but when it finally stopped and I looked around, there was 6-8 cars backed up each way. Plus the workers in the store looking out the window... I don't think I ever went back to that dealer. | ||

It's just a matter of when....we all do it. At least I've found with Buell's....the cosmetic's such as pegs/mirrors/levers are all cheap. My wife put some "personality" into my first buell. She was backing up her PT, backed into my XB, which hung up on her bumper, and then she proceeded to drag it 15 feet. If you're married, use the accident as an excuse to get those custom pieces you wanted! lol (that's what I did) | ||

I've got a good one. Happened a few years ago. I used to ride Funeral Escort on a retired Riverside PD Harley (in fact we looked just like Riverside PD motor officers). One day while taking the funeral procession to the cemetery I parked my bike in the middle of a busy intersection, put the kickstand down and got off to direct traffic. I was about 5 to 10 feet away from the bike when I heard a crash. I turned around to see my bike lying on it's side. What I hadn't noticed was the roadway was banked for rain runoff and my kickstand was uphill from the bike. So much for looking professional. I was embarrassed as hell but what could I do? I just shrugged my shoulders (and hung my head) and walked back over to pick up my bike. The low center of gravity on the harley kept it upright just long enough for me to walk away. Needless to say I paid a little better attention after that. | ||
