Just curious, has anyone seen / done a mod to make the speedometer and tachometer digital? I'd like to do this, if possible, and work in a shift light. I don't know much about bikes, I just got my 9R a few months ago and it is my first bike... I'd love to know if this is something that can be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | ||

Do a search on here for the Veypor VR2. I have one on my bike. You can use it to replace your dash, but I use it in conjunction. | ||

Completely independent of the bikes ECM. It uses two sensors, one is a magnetic sensor I mounted to the rear brake rotor to get the vehicle speed, and the other is a wire tapped into the ignition coil to pick up the engine RPMs. | ||

Its as accurate as you program it.  Anyway, it works great, my only issue is that its only water resistant, not waterproof. I ruined my unit twice over from getting it drenched.  | ||

Thanks Froggy! Very good to know! How difficult is it to hook up if I was to replace my stock dash with it? You said it's as accurate as you program it... what exactly do you mean? Sorry, I'm a total novice. I love the features! I think this is a real possibility, depending on it's accuracy. I was looking to do a few different mods for some different measurements and it looks like this combines it all for a relatively small cost. (Message edited by toast on September 27, 2009) | ||

In theory its as accurate as the stock setup. Its getting the RPM signal right from the ignition coil, and gets the speed from the rear wheel. Assuming you enter in the correct data, it will be spot on. In fact it can be more accurate than the stock setup, because you can adjust it to compensate for different size tires and wear. Only issue I would see about replacing the dash is you would no longer get a check engine light, even with the optional "dash kit" that gives lights for highbeam and such. That was the main reason why I ran it in conjunction. Also, the stock gauges acted as a backup for the days this thing got rained on so much that it shorts out and won't work. | ||

I installed the Veypor on Froggy's recommendation and I love it. It is extremely accurate. The accuracy is based on the accuracy of your input -- if you measure your rear wheel accurately (its easy if you are careful) and enter that information, it will be better than the stock reading. It took me a couple of enjoyable hours -- going slowly -- to wire and install it. I also love the mileage and MPG data it offers, the gear indicator (works great: instantly!) and the shift light. It works very well! | ||

Awesome, Thanks Bitbear! I'm getting really interested in it the more I read. It's only like $100 more than a nice gear indicator and has a ton more functions... Just makes sense to get it if it's so good! |
