Hello, I just notice a knocking noise coming from the front cylinder. Has anybody experience this problem? My bike has 18K and I have done 3 track days. |

Need more specifics. First what is you bike, year/model. Is it coming from the cylinder head or from the bottom end? How loud is it? Has anything changed recently or been changed? ie, loss of power, adding new parts, rough idle, etc... |

Sprocket shaft nut is likely loose. See the tech bulletin on that... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=1540174#POST1540174 |

If its that front nut, the knock will have a little bit of a "ring" to it, and will go away if you put a very light clutch load on it... not enough to move the bike, just enough to drag a little. (Don't ask me how I know.... ) |

It sounds like is coming from the Cylinder Head, but I could be wrong. Its an 2004 XB12R with 18k. I change the oil every 2000-3000 and the primary case too. I think I will start by checking the torque of the flywheel sprocket shaft and go from there. It sounds like a Diesel engine. I think I'm done with this bike. |

The knocking noise is coming from the top of the rear cylinder head? I don't know much about Harley/Buell engines. But I think it won't be good news... Has any body remove an engine of an 04' xb12r? |

Is the noise new? Every time I ride my bike w/o ear plugs I about have a heart attack listening to all the noises it makes. I finally just resolved myself to the fact that it had a warranty and rode it. I've put 18k miles on it this year and the engine hasn't blown up, so I guess they are "normal." |

My scg makes a rattle in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range. It's done this from new. I thought it was pinging so I retarded the timing in the 3k to 4k range at small throttle openings. The timing changes had no effect on the noise. Now I think it's normal valve train noise. |

>>>I think I will start by checking the torque of the flywheel sprocket shaft and go from there. Just to clarify, there is no way to "check" the torque of that nut. You can only remove, clean, apply loktite red, and retorque. |
