Does anyone have any experience with inside helmet speakers. I have used earbuds with my ipod and after 1-2hrs they start giving me a headache, and no the volume is not loud. Any advise and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dean Bush

I have used a set of helmet speakers in the past. I bought a cheap pair off Ebay to see how I'd like them. My race can is too loud for the set I had. I'm going to try a better quality some time here in the near future.

As for the extra noise, like I said, my race can is loud enough to where I've not been able to hear emergency vehicles coming up behind me so music isn't going "kill" me...

Yea I just have the volume up enough to overcome wind and stock exhaust noise, not enough to be a distraction, or block out all needed info. I have read some reviews on in-helmet speakers placement inside of the helmet makes all of the difference.

Yeah...place them directly behind the padding on the ears or on the outside of that padding. The ones I bought were too thick to do that. They put too much pressure on my ears.

I had custom ear plugs made. Molded to your ear and what not. Very comfy stay put and all that. They also make ear buds the same way. A little pricey around 150 but would work great

I use Skull Candy headphones. They block the harshness of the Latus pipe, wind noise, and they deliver clear sound. They also dont make my ears sore like earplugs do.

I met a guy who is an Audiologist and does the custom fits for performers. Went to his office at Carnegie Hall and he did the complete testing in the Anechoic chamber and built a custom set.

Awesome and no problems wearing them for 14 hour days of riding. The Bose I keep as backups work okay but after 4 or 5 hours start to hurt.

If you are around NYC I'd recommend Dr. Servidio.

I use a set of Sony buds that are similar to what RPM shows in his post above. Magnificent. Comfortable and fairly good at killing the wind noise.

Speakers would be inferior I think as they would not block any wind noise and you'd likely have to turn the volume up to damaging levels just to hear the music, kinda like you do with std ipod earbuds.

I use the Cardo Scala Rider 2 speakers for my music. The helmet speakers aren't stereo but I don't mind because I wear earplugs anyway.

Etymotic ER-6i. Awesome at isolating the noise and delivering excellent sound. Do some research on the web, pretty popular for motorcyclists.

My brother has a pair of those Skull Candy headsets. He rides a Fat Boy with no helmet so he was no help to me. They don't pop out of your ears at all when you put your helmet on RPM?

I use an Autocom system. They work extremely well and have excellent noise canceling. It also works very well with the cell phone and I believe you can plug in a GPS as well. It has a sensor that adjust to ambient noise so no blasting you ears around town. www.topgearaccess.com/autocom/

I had some of the hs92 speakers, worked pretty well for the price and there was never any worry about safety.

My helmet has built in STEREO speakers, DOT approved helmet. Vega V-Tune. Its Bluetooth, use with my ipod (with bluetooth dongle), phone and GPS fine.

I bought the HS24 Helmet Speakers from Helmetspeakers.com they are good. The only reason I went back to earbuds was because the speakers need to be set into the helmet for my big ears. They are nice and loud and you can change the volume in-line which is very nice.

I use Sennheiser CX400 ear buds. They seal enough to offer some basic noise reduction if I am not listening to anything.

If your earbuds hurt then I'd say they don't fit well, try another pair if you can.

I found these guys on the web: http://www.earfuze.com/index.html

They are at home custom earphones. I am thinking about ordering a kit. They are less than $50.00. They may be worth a try.

I bought a set of Skull Candy ASYM earbuds yesterday and took them for a ride on my bicycle for 45 miles. Very comfortable, stayed in place, great sound and the wire going over the top of the ear was no problem. The only thing missing is an in-line volume control. Paid $40.00 at hh gregg.

Cardo Scala Rider II will give you blue tooth functionality, a microphone AND some thin velcro speakers to mount up in your helmet. You simply plug your MP3 player in with the supplied cable and viola! You can also use the FM Radio built it. Me and the wife love them.

I have the XSJ in my shark and just use Skull Candy buds in my scorpion. I had to replace the connector on the XSJ b/c the original was crap. the cones are beginning to weaken because of the volume required to overcome my D&D. I wont buy them again.

If the ear portion is closed off (like a shark lid) use a speaker not a bud, the buds will hurt after only a few minutes because they will be pushed in so hard.
