I have 2 set's of complete wheels for my 2006 XB12SS. I just installed black rims with Diablo T tires and painted bike semi-gloss black. I just purchased a set of Diablo Rosso tires to install on my just removed Orange rims. I purchased the tires from the motor cycle superstore for $278.00 & free S&H and received a coupon for $40.00 off next purchase in Sept. 09. My question is should I buy another set of Rosso's or Diablo supersport. Also how long will a set of tires last on the shelf in a garage

Good question. I've got a set that has been sitting for about 6 months.

Bump....

Well, tires oxidize with age, get harder and eventually crack. You definitely want to keep them out of direct sunlight. I'd think the cooler you keep them the slower the oxidation process will be (maybe keep them inside in the air conditioning vs. outside in the un-conditioned garage). If you could figure out some way to seal them up (BA freezer bag?) that might slow it further. If you could fill the bag with nitrogen, they might just keep indefinitely.

I was told street tires can run into problems after 2 years or so (if I remember correctly)...what are the date codes on the tires you have?

Rear has DOT EB PT H834 2408
Front has DOT EB F8 H836 0409
I do not know if these are the correct date codes, but it is the only numbers I can see that look like any date code

Yep, the end of all that is the date the tire was made (the 2408 and 0409 part)...rear was made 24th week of 2008, front the 4th week of 2009, so both are pretty good.

The set of Diablo T tires on the bike now with the black rims where made Sept 2006. no cracking or any noticeable problems. I took them out on one of my high speed course with some 90-100mph sweepers and low speed corners and some off camber so far no problems.

If I had that credit I'd buy a set for a friend of mine or resell the coupon for 20$ to someone else... unless you need extra tires for the track.

That's my take.

I e-mailed Pirelli about tire storage and shelf life of ROSSO tires. Pirelli e-mailed me back stating that the "mere passage of time time (age) does not cause tires to deteriorate". Pirelli said to reduce tire exposure to "Ozone"(such as storage near electric motors) and that some tires are good after 10 years while others tires are not after 2 years. So I probably will get another set since Tire prices as with Oil prices will only go up. Thank's DEAN

Just run them hard and you'll have all three sets used by 2010 ; ).

And if by Diablo Supersport you mean the regular Diablo, I have heard they are almost the same as the Rosso's, many cant tell the difference and are MUCH cheaper. Still the Rosso's have a lot of neat tech, when I was still (decided on Bridgestone, cheaper) looking for some new Pirelli's I wanted the Rosso's over the regular Diablo's I could get for $180 a set ; ).

3 years is the shelf life for a tyres, you should keep them out of direct sunlight too like Hughlesses said.

I remember that bit from my college course : D

When I worked in the printing plate industry, we kept the rubber in the freezer.

I won't buy a drag slick that's older than 6 months...for what that is worth..
