About how much $ should I expect to pay to have my tires installed and balanced? I will be taking the wheels off myself. |

Kurt, CYclegear on East Little Creek Road charges 25 a tire if you bring your wheels in. Southside Harley Davidson mounts for free if you buy the tire there, they also give Buell owners 15% off of everything (parts, motorclothes and special order items). When you go in talk to Joe in parts he will hook you up, just make sure you let him know you are a Buell owner. |

Typical around here is that mounting and balance is included in the tire purchase price. You pay if you bought the tires somewhere else and you pay if you want the tires taken off. Here, it's about $CDN40 per wheel if they take the wheel off. It's about $250 if the dealer does it. (Note: my tire guy charged me one hour for the whole thing, both wheels, because he wanted to learn how to do Buells. He wanted to take it slow, go by the manual and cover the whole thing. As long as I was willing to hang around, that was the deal. He already had a good rep with the local racers so that's what we did.) |

Last time I got tires it was $50's a wheel to have them removed, changed, and balanced. Shop I am going to this weekend is $50's for both. Most shops I know of will mount and balance, assuming wheels are already off, free of charge, if you purchase the tires there. |

Motorcycle Superstore has an installer program, so if you buy from them they will ship tires to approved installers in your area. There's a search function to find installers near you, and the search result list has info on each installer, including (most times) what they charge for wheels on and off the bike. Doesn't mean you have to buy from MS, but then again, their prices are good. |

I use a local shop Free instillation and static balance if you buy tires from them. Their prices are pretty good too. They charge $15 to mount and balance if you bring in the tires and rims. Another independent shop charged me $35 per tire for the same thing when I bought the tire and brought in the rim. A local import dealer charged me about $200 in labor when I took them my S2 for a new set of tires. That was the first and last time I took my bike in to have tires mounted. Find a good local place and take the rims to them. Most places aren't used to a Buell and might not do ti right. The import place had the belt on my S2 so tight that it had compressed the rear shock! |

Since torque settings are so specific (and important to follow the procedure) to re-mount wheels, you are better off taking them off to bring to the tire shop, then putting back on the bike. Also check the wheel bearings now that the wheels are off. If the shop does dynamic balancing, you should hear bearing problems once the wheel is on and spinning. Also, be sure that the shop will treat your rims with no-mar type care - tales of butchered finish on ill-treated rims abound. (Message edited by fahren on September 12, 2009) |
