What's your usual speeds, revs? Wait, are you bragging or complaining? |

Is there even a question here? Looking at mpg is like looking at the clock during the so called shagging. If your going to ride it hard forget about mpg and just ride. |

Something for you to compare with.. 05 12Scg Buell Race Kit (race pipe, race ecm, K&N filter) Removed snorkel (snorkel through frame, NOT rubber velocity stack on throttle body) Run usually between 3.5 & 5.5 rpm (sorta defeats the purpose of the race can since it's a top band pipe) No internal engine modifications. Running on Pirelli Rosso tires between a few inches above sea level and a couple hundred feet above sea level. Mostly twisty back roads. At least 90% Averaging 44 mpg. A lot has to do with where you ride and how. A strong right hand makes the mpg go down. (Message edited by Metalstorm on August 30, 2009) |

'06 12R, 24k miles, K&N Filter, Cut up intake, Jardine Alum Pipe. When riding a long time on highway and at a constant speed of about 70-80, about 58mpg. When riding in town or riding the piss out of her (usually ends up using about a quart of oil every 1000 miles when riding this hard), she'll get about 43mpg |

does the 9 and 12 have THAT big of a difference in gas mileage at higher rpms?!?! I wonder if the shape of the bike would play a part too, sleekness of the 'R' and the pug-face of the 'S'? |

06 XB12SS converted to a Ulysses including a sail for a windshield and hard bags. 60-65mpg typical. Aggressive riding drops it to 55mpg, very difficult to get it much lower. |

Poking a hole in the frame would get it lower Froggy! |

"I wonder if the shape of the bike would play a part too, sleekness of the 'R' and the pug-face of the 'S'?" '03 9S here, and consistently get 58ish- highway or in town, as long as I am riding her moderately. When I beat on her, it never drops below 45 on her worst day. So I'd have to say no to the notion of the 9 getting worse and the S getting worse! |

I got 44mpg last week with a small intake leak. I typically get 46-48 with moderate riding. |

An R is really not much more aerodynamic... So I dont think thats a factor. A full fairing like on a Japanese bike is something, but on the R the main factor is that you are more tucked in with the lower bars. |

'08 12R @ 40 mpg I can baby it on the slab and get 45, but that's not fun at all. |

Froggy, How does your bike get such high mileage? Are you sure both cylinders are operating? |

I have been working on trying to figure out how to deactivate the rear fuel injector for when I am slabbing to get even better fuel economy. In the mean time I will ride the Blast for commuting, its getting me almost 85mpg. |

For normal all around riding that includes about 1/2 city and 1/2 high speed highway, I get 160 miles with 3.6 gallons (44.4 mpg), it never varies. When touring, at relatively constant somewhat sane speed, I will get about 50 mpg. |

Well Froggy you certainly have impressive number stated. 85mpg on the Blast? and average of 60mpg? on the Ss? Wow! I know that a few things changed in '08 but my mpg sucks. It seems like all of the pre-'08 models did significantly better. I would be thrilled just to get 50mpg. It seems like no matter how I ride it's always 40mpg max. My bike is bone stock. |

The 08+ bikes are fine, I was getting about 50mpg on a brand new 09 that had only 300 miles on the odo, and running on low mileage winter gas. During the winter my SS isn't far off from it (like 55mpg or so). I am sure once it is broken in it would make up the small difference and match my SS. |

Thanx for your reply. I have approx. 5000mi on the firebolt. The last ECM update I had was for the tach issue and it was like pulling teeth to get it done. |

Froggy, I have a friend that is a gas mileage enthusiast (nut). He has an electric car and a Prius. He drives to get the highest gas mileage by not running AC, windows closed coasting down hills etc. He is a nice guy but... I can introduce him to you, I think you would get along. |

75mpg? You must be riding slower than my Grandma. And all she had was a horse & buggy. |
