Hello Buell: At 250 miles, the turn signals on my brand new XB9SX stopped working. There was some short somewhere. A week in the shop, it came back fixed. I wrapped the electrical cradle in friction tape (as recommended in this forum) to prevent future issues. Well, at 500 miles, the headlights have stopped working, and the high beam idiot light stays on. Any idea why this is happening? Is there an easy, known fix or is it back to the shop? Can't wait to see what goes wrong at 750 miles ; P |

And the high beam indicator stays on when the key is turned to off? Check the ground on the headlight wiring sub-assembly, the black wire as it comes from the connector, especially right at the connector. Wiggle it and the light comes back on. That wire seems to rot pretty easily. |

The high beam indicator, is on when the key is turned to off. I will try your fix. Thanks! |

Headlight sub-assembly. Look behind the headlights. Follow the wires back to the main harness connector. One wire goes from the high beam, one from the low, and the other does a "Y" thing and is the ground for both lights. That's the one that is most likely the culprit. Look especially at the black wire connection right at the connector. |

well, that did not fix it. also noticed the horn is broke. took it to dealer, they are working on it, say the whole harness may need to be replaced. this is why buells are noted for poor reliability. saw a '10 XB9SX. nice looking! |

So, turned out it was not the ground. 4 wires at the front had been cut (or snapped) -- the horn was not working either. Guy said that they had been installed too tightly, and I went practicing full lock U turns the weekend before, and that may have done it. Got fixed OK, and under warranty, but not great. btw -- am I the only one who thinks Harley/Buell should offer loaner bikes when you drop yours off for service. I think the local triumph/BMW place offers that. It's a pain to have to get a lift there and back! |
