My check engine light has started periodically coming on while I'm riding. It usually only stays on for a few seconds (although sometimes a little longer) then it goes out. There are no other symptoms; the bike is running great. I checked the dipstick and the oil level is about 1/3 of the way up past the "low" point, so I figured there's plenty of oil. This only started happening after I threw out the stock air filter and put in a K&N air filter. Is this normal? Will the bike "learn" to compensate or will I have to a TPS reset and or remap? It's a 2007 XB12Scg that is stock other than the breather reroute. | ||

On your side I would start to study a service manual why it can occur. I think it not normal behaviour! | ||

did you hit that temp probe at the back of the filter/base plate? If that gets damaged or comes disconnected that will bring on the engine light. Found that out when i was playing around doing re-breather and wasn't careful putting my filter back in. | ||

I don't think so, but if I did, would it cause an intermittent check engine light or a constant check engine light? | ||

Perhaps the connection to the temp sensor is a little loose and moves while riding, causing the on/off trouble light and not a consistent one. Just a thought. | ||

Too much oil on the filter which is getting on the AIT and O2? | ||

Hmm...haven't had time to check yet, but I'll check that too, but doubt it. New filter came pre-oiled and I didn't add to it. Now where there was an issue, is prior to doing the breather reroute, I had a puddle of oil in the rear of the airbox base. Either way, based on the responses, I'm assuming that it is NOT normal for the check engine light to come on just from going to a K&N air filter, right? | ||

I don't think so, but if I did, would it cause an intermittent check engine light or a constant check engine light? It's your bike. You have to tell us what you've got. Is the light blinking or staying on? Blinking rapid or steady? What does it do after the four second start-up? | ||

It's blank after the four second start-up. The light does not blink. It will come on and stay on steady for a non-specific period of time, as short as 1 second and as long as two minutes. The light coming does not appear to coincide with any particular RPM, throttle position, lean angle, braking, or acceleration. |
