It always takes 2.5 QTs to fill like the manual say. AND I'm always 3-4 OZs low when I check it after a 5-10 mile ride to warm it up. After I add that to bring the level up to 1/3 above the low line it stays until I change it again then it's the same show. Any ideas what's going on? Am I buying "Short" bottles of oil? Over filling and not knowing it, I'd think it'd be blowing all over the place if I over filled it that much. Not that seems to hurt anything I'd just like to know what's going on is all. |

Do you prime your oil filter when replacing it? |

No idea whats going on but just be lucky you dont go through 3 bottles of oil per change like I am on target to with how much my bikes burning . Actually havent really checked how well the Amsoil is holding up, who knows, maybe it will burn less then the Royal Purple. |

2 thoughts for the OP: 1) 3-4 oz COULD be still in the bottles...not likely, but possible. 2) When are you checking the oil? Give it 5 minutes after the ride then check. Oil will drain back into the swingarm. JRaice- don't give up on the RP yet! Even if you stop burning oil now, it's likely because your motor is finally breaking in, not because you stopped using RP. My '03 gets RP and I literally NEVER have to ad any oil between 2500 mile changes! |

Amsoil is near clear... Royal Purple is well, purple. I like that quality in Amsoil not to mention the bike seems to start better with Amsoil. |

even though you are filling your oil filter it is not full. If you fill your filter to the top, let it sit for about 10 min and come back the level will have dropped. Why? The element absorbs the oil, This is why your filter is so heavy after changing even when the oil has been drained. 3 to 4 ounces can easily be absorbed by said element... |

Spidy, I thought that was oil in the filter was accounted for by Buell in the 2 1/2 QTs they say it takes to fill. Andymnelson I let it sit anywhere from 5-10 mins. I guess I could be doing it wrong just don't see how. Unless Spidy's on to it. BTW a after a 400 mile ride the level was just where it was when I checked it last night. |
