Chris, any tire is going to be better then the dupflops.
The new OEM Pirelli's are supposed to be WAY better then them and I have found the PR2's to be better then the Pirelli's.
And I dont use the rear brake so I can comment on that getting locked but mine is WEAK. If I just use the rear I can basically put all my weight on the lever without it locking on clean pavement.
I only use the front, and also am looking to get lindall gold's. |

'06 Uly point of view:
I have had the D616, Scorpion Sync (2 sets)and Pilot Road 2's on my Uly.
PR2's = best overall. Same grip or more than Syncs, better wear, at least as good in really wet (I think better, actually).
I really liked the Sync's, but gave up nothing in moving to the PR2's.
Did not like the Dunlops, like most on this board. Wore strangely and quickly.
The PR2 is only behind the Sync and Dunlop off the pavement. PR2 is definitely NOT an off road tire. I was on a wet clay road (in rain), the PR2 was kinda scary.
If you stay mostly on pavement, PR2 is a real winner in my book.
It is easy to mix up the Power 2CT and Road 2's so make sure you read the sidewall carefully. The Pilot Road 2's also have the "2CT" name on one side, which really makes it confusing. |

Guy I ride with had the PR2 on the rear and a PP2 on the front and didnt realize they were not the same till I mentioned it. |

I see I missed the sale at cycle gear (not that there's one around here but i'll probably buy online anyway.)
All the local places quoted me 275ish for the rear PR2, plus 80 to mount and balance.
It looks like I can get it for about 100 less online, any places you know are good to deal with or having a good deal? Revzilla, motorcyclesuperstore, and cyclegear all have it in stock. Any of our sponsors I should look at first? |

If you want a good dual compound tire for cheap, competition accessories has a bridgestone sale going on right now. The BT-021's are great sport touring tires that actually do quite well at the track, just ask Steve_Mackay.

I'm running the BT-021's on my Uly and have been happy with them. Don't know for sure what my mileage was for the first rear (7-9K), but it was the first set of tires (in around 60K miles of riding) that I wore the front out at the same rate as the rear.
That was a shocker for me, so I had to order another front when the rear came due. (I usually just order 2 rears & 1 front when getting tires.)
I dunno - I am riding harder these days....

Havent heard about the BT-021's until now.
How do they compare to the Pilot Road 2's?
Might be worth trying them out if they are much cheaper when I burn out the PR2's (still have a long ways to go!). |

I ride dual compound Pirelli corsa III's and like em a lot. they stick well when cornering and have much better feel than my dunlops that i previously had. just my $.02. |

Maybe I need to look into all of these, seems there are a lot more dual compound sport touring tires out there.
After I start seeing more wear in the PR2's Ill look into the BT-021's and the Pirelli's.
I have been looking into the BT-016's but decided they are to soft for me. I rarely slide the PR2's (only when hitting questionable pavement etc...) and have seen some SERIOUSLY fast riding done on them, even on the track (other riders) but still think I might like something with just a little more confidence.
Met a guy today who raved about the Corsa III's, although he did have a slight flat spot.
I rarely do long commutes, I ride around town and do 30-60min stints on the freeway to get to ride meeting spots etc... Usually Im only in the mountains but I need a tire that wont be trash after a 4-5 hour freeway ride, like the OEM Pirelli's were.
Also I didnt like the turn in of the OEM tires, they were agile to a point but didnt like to lean once they got to a certain point. The PR2's love to lean over. |

I have the Pilot Power 2CT's front and rear, best tire i've had to date grip-wise. Tread wear seems to be an issue but i'm pretty hard on them... They seem to be much more confidence inspiring than the diablos that came with it... just my .02 |

Those Power 2CT's are supposed to be awesome but they will wear even faster then a regular pilot power, which if pushed hard cant even make it to 1500 miles, even on light low HP bikes (buddy of mine has a KTM 690 and gets less then 1500 on Pilot Powers).
I want decent longevity, but with a bit more grip then the Pilot Road 2's. Anybody used the PR2's AND either the BT-021's or the Corsa III's? I am leaning towards the Corsa's for my next tire, just to give something grippy a try (but from what I hear they will last long then a Pilot Power, is that accurate?) and also because I like the idea of a single compound front tire, for more grip when braking. |

The PR2's are great tires. I recently put a PR2 rear on my VFR with a PP on the front. The wear balanced out very nicely from front to rear and gave great steering feel and braking. Plus, the PP is cheaper.
I find the grip to be equal or better than the Syncs, and wear to be much better. Even on the VFR with more hp that my XB9, more weight, and linked brakes, the rear still has no flat spot at 1500 miles. |

I ride mostly twisties which could explain why my PR2's are perfectly round still (over 3000 miles on them)... but I like to wack the XB12's (plenty of torque) throttle wide open any chance I get in a straight line, which is where you get the most wear (high speeds and acceleration) which is pretty impressive.
Perhaps Ill try the PR2 rear PP front combo next so I still have good longevity. You ran them till they needed to be replaced? The PP front lasted as long as the PR2 rear?
I think its either going to be that combo or the Corsa III's, I like the idea of having a single compound front as thats what I use to brake etc...
It would be fun to try the PP/PR2 combo though because I could see the difference between the more round PR2 profile (its sort of intermediate, its a blend of a triangular and a round tire) with the more aggressive and triangular Power tire while still maintaining the same grip in the rear I am now used to.
Still think it'd be fun to try a full on hypersport tire all around (in the rear as well)... such as the Corsa III. Decisions decions... |

I think this has made the decision for me...
Still going to look into the Corsa III's a bit more to see if they are worth consdering but after reading all 6 pages I really think a Pilot Power front and a Pilot Road 2 rear is the way to go.
The rear will give me the mileage and Ill be comfortable doing a long slab trip on it...
The front will have more grip in the center for straight line (and trail) braking as well as a more aggressive profile for quicker turn in. At lower speeds (10-30mph) the Buell snaps almost too fast but anything significantly faster and it takes some solid pushing from the clubman bars to lean it over. I think the more aggressive PP profile's snappier feel might be fun, or atleast worth a shot!
Only thing about the PP that worries me is the talk about straight line stability but I ride enough slab and probably dont push AS hard in the twisties as a lot of these guys so I dont think the profile will get made into TO much more of a V as compared to them brand new. |

I see you found the link that originally introduced me to the idea of mixing them up. Good information in there.
I didn't run them to the end of their life yet, so no comments on exactly how equal the wear rates will be. But, I'm siding with everyone else on this topic...besides, I typically replace both tires at the same time since rubber ages and loses its grip. At least I'll use up more front rubber in the process. I always hate to throw away a perfectly good 'looking' front tire.
Let us know how you like the combo on the Buell. I haven't read of this pairing on a Buell so you may very well be the first to consciously try it. I'm all ears, because come spring, my 12 will need another set of tires and Michelin has done nothing but impress me. Good grip, excellent wear, and GREAT wet traction. Not a dirt/mud/snow tire whatsoever, but that is clear just by looking at it.
My backup remains the Scorpion Syncs... |

Still having a REALLY hard time deciding between trying the Pilot Power/Pilot Road 2 F/R combo or doing the Corsa III's, which are also dual compound rear and sticky front, but with a stickier rear. |

I've run two sets of Pilot Power 2s. 12,000 km out of each set. I got 7,000 km out of the original Diablos.
I really like the profile on the PP2s, much better for choosing lean angle than the Diablo, but I found them slow to warm up on cold wet days.
Coming into winter (here on the wrong side of the world), I asked about a good winter tyre. I am no Dunlop fan but I went with the Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart 2 compound that were recommended by my dealer.
The profile is as good for cornering as the PP2 and it they much grippier on cold wet days. I've had then out on a track day and they were perfect. As I say I'm not a traditional Dunlop fan but these are great. |

AND THIS JUST IN..............
Dunlop has introduced a new dual compound sport/trackday tire, the Qualifier 2, also known in the USA as the Sportmax G2.
I have not used the tire, but tests in Sport Rider and Roadracing World indicate that it is a big improvement over the original Dunlop Qualifier in terms of grip and handling.
This is a very sticky tire, just introduced, so no reports on wear are available yet, but I wouldn't expect a lot. |

Hello all I just got the new dual compound GPA Dunlop tires. One set hard center medium edge , two sets medium center soft edge . Both set ups are stickyer than the Corsa 3 at roughly the same price . Cant give milage report yet but performance wise they are a step up jake |

Boltrider, what did you have before?
Everyone I talked to with Rosso's, Diablo's or Corsa III's seemed to love them.
Lots of guys I ride with have BT-016's, not the OEM's but the true 5 zone rear 3 zone front model (3 types of rear rubber) and were trying to sell them on me, as they are SUPER cheap tires, but I am set on trying out the Rosso's next. |

Jraice, I had a mixed front/rear before I switched. My front was the original Diable T which was just hammered and I never liked it. The rear was a Diablo Strada and that is a good tire. Very good mileage (9000 mi when I changed it and it had more to give), grip was good too, only sometimes it could take awhile to heat up.
I expect the mileage on the Rossos to fall short of the Stradas, but I'm okay with that. Scrub-in today with the Rossos was a breeze, no pucker moments at all. |

Diablo T's were okay, wasnt a huge fan of them...
My experience with scrub in is that its really not super necessary, with my Pilot Road 2's I road home on the freeway then went out for a 100 mile ride and they felt so good I was riding as normal with no problems.
Let them warm up, dont push the limits but it really isnt as bad (IMHO and experience) as people say. Just go out and ride them.
Keep me updated on how you like them as you push harder. |
